My son received a notice of a meter violation in N.O. going back to July of 2012. Is the city legally able to collect on something this minor going back 3 yrs?

Sounds like Mitch Bitch is trying to raise money to cover the taking down of those mean old statues.

It's effectively an unpaid civil penalty which you haven't defeated by any legal means, so yes. However, the remedy the City utilizes is adding the vehicle to the boot list and collecting once they locate it. Might as well just pay it.

In the meantime, we literally had round-the-clock armed robberies last night, with 9 between 8:30 p.m. and 5:45 a.m. Wonder if they'll get a letter.

Supposedly you can get around this with a new license plate. Just go to the DMV and say yours was stolen and get a new one. Lot cheaper than paying hundreds in fines.

This is not legal advice.

Who's name is on car tag registration? Son could be off the hook if it's in your name. If so tell him not to worry about it

How much money do you think there is in researching and fighting parking violation laws?

No, if you don't pay a ticket long enough it just goes away.

If you don't live in NOLA then don't pay it. Just be aware that if you go to NOLA and your car is on the boot list they will boot that shite. Otherwise pay the damn ticket.

I would imagine the debt would have to follow the LA date of prescription for non contract debt which would likely be 3 years and expired by now.

You're prosecuted for parking tickets right? If it's criminal, there's no prescription. If it's civil, it would prescribe.

I don't think it would be criminal if they can't prove you were driving the vehicle, but I'm sure they've found some way around that.
