He said in 10-15 years car accident litigation will almost be a thing of the past with improvements in driving technology and legislation to limit awards.

He said people are fighting more and more for what they think mom and dad should have left them instead of their siblings. I thought it was an interesting observation.

These things are not mutually exclusive, and people have been contesting successions for hundreds, if not thousands of years.

He's completely wrong about car accidents and probably correct on the inheritance.

It's an issue. My uncle took an altered will to my dementia ridden grandmother and had her sign it giving him a house and a huge piece of land. My mother and aunt tried to fight it but it got to be too expensive in lawyer fees.

that's funny b/c at court today (i was there for a criminal matter) there were 2 big civil things going: contested succession and some family land dispute

I agree but I think a society we are greedier today than in past generations. It's more of an entitlement society about what is owed in today's world.

driverless cars are going to reduce accidents and there will be essentially none when they fully take over

At some point, a signature should be considered null and void of dementia ridden people.

I've been reading up on medieval German history, and no, we are no different from them. These guys would fight war after war with no hope of winning just to get a meaningless title back into their possession. It's quite fascinating really and I intend to make a thread about it soon.

I doubt it. Too many lawyers and doctors that make too much money off of helping piece of shite citizens get money from insurance companies when they aren't hurt simply b/c the lawyers that fight for crap like this eventually become the judges that think it's everyones right to take money from the evil insurance companies.

Exposing the process of how easy it is to get money when you've been in an accident is, and showing the piece of shite lawyers and doctors that pretend along with the "victim" just so they can steal money from the insurance companies, which in turn drive up our rates, is the best way to stop the ridiculous frivolous lawsuits that follow routine accidents where no one is injured in the slightest bit.

It's extremely too easy for a lawyer and doctor to walk away with $20K each from a routine accident with zero injuries for them to stop.
And we aren't going to turn into some futuristic world where no one drives cars anytime soon.

that being said, i have heard more of people arguing over what they think they are owed from their parents will. My wifes mother is mad that my wife is treated like a daughter in her grandparents will, even though they were the real parents that raised my wife instead of her actual mother who got pregnant in high school and let her mom and dad raise her kid while she did nothing.

I disagree. The presence of large numbers of autonomous vehicles is much farther off than 10-15 years.

Maybe not long term as in 100 years or so, but I don't think these smart cars are going to really be that prevalent in my lifetime.

Yes, but when your racking up 20-30 thousand in lawyers fees fighting an out of state battle, it gets to be too much. They were contesting that she was still in good enough health to alter the will and and the medical records were incomplete and it goes on and on.
