So I want to add some turbines to my roof. Is this an easy do it yourself or should I find someone to do it? Don't want any roof leaks.

Do you plan on going with a boiler or a nuclear reactor?

What a nit picky, unrealistic goal. You should try for something more attainable like no more than four roof leaks.

It's not too hard. Just hot as hell on a roof right now.
I have ridge vents on my home. My attic stays hot.
Talking to roofers recently, the trend is to go back to wind turbines.

I installed two on my roof myself. The hardest part is pulling the nails under the shingles to make room to tuck the flange under. Start at sunrise and it will take at least an hour and a half.

stay away from powered fans. big trouble.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to which is better, wind turbines or power ventilators?
Also, I don't like ridge vents either.

My grandparents had a big attic fan in the ceiling of their hallway. It kept the whole house cool.

I have vinyl siding under my eaves that it vented, and ridge vents currently. But I don't think its enough. Had my AC changed recently and the guy who did it recommended adding a couple of the whirly bird type vents.

Why "big trouble "?
I'd figure the only debate is that of the cost to operate outweighs the cost savings on the demand on your AC.

powered ventilators, most are installed in attics not really designed for them. The draw so much guaranteed cfm's out of attic. Most attics don't allow enough cfm of vented air into attic to meet that demand. Where do you think air is being drawn from... from inside your home... so your sucking conditioned air from house into attic, where do you think house draws needed replacement air from...... becomes a big problem.

Are these terms simply designed to make an attic fan more expensive?

Your memory is skewed. 6 year olds seldom complain about the heat.

I'm assuming a roofing company is who would do this?

Don't use powered fans. I had 5 unpowered turbines installed on my roof in addition to ridge vents about 10 yrs ago. Make sure you have enough eve vent area or the turbines won't do much good. There are formulas for determining how much eve vent area you need. I would just hire a professional but I would make sure he understands about the eve vent area needed and have him provide that also (as needed).
My electric consumption dropped way down in summer months afterwards (but I also insulated and decked the attic).

Huh?
I say an attic fan is one of those giant fans intended to draw in outside air through open windows in the living area of the house, a wind turbine is one of those whirly round fans that spin on wind and up drafts, and power ventilators are the fans with a powered motor that turn on and off with a thermostat mounted on the fan.
