So i tried to turn on the gas fireplace yesterday morning, and no gas was coming out. I just spent 20 minutes on hold at ATMOS and finally hung up. Any ideas on solutions? I'm starting to loathe atmos energy due to their terrible customer service.

I seriously doubt that your problem has anything to do with them. Do you have other gas appliances working?

I've really never had a problem with their CS....always prompt in answering and handling my request. My fireplace is the only thing that uses gas at my house so I have them cut it off for the summer and turn it back on in late Oct. to avoid the monthly maintenance fees they charge, even if you use no gas. (of course there's a 60 dollar turn on fee).
Is your gas always on? Are you a "seasonal" customer? If so, your line usually has air in it the first time you try to light it for the winter...if so, just keep at it until the gas takes hold. Otherwise, you may have a fireplace issue.

Did you open the valve at the fireplace?

Is it possible they shut off my fireplace during the summer months?

Of course. All gas appliances work. Gas lamp, stove, hot water heater. No gas is coming out of the fireplace at all. And my bills are always paid on time.

who is they? Atmos? I doubt you have a separate line going to your fireplace that they would shut off. Go in the attic, or wherever the gas line comes in, and follow it to the different locations.

This is not an atmos problem, and atmos has much better customer service than centerpoint anyway.

Monday mornings are the busiest CS times of the week too.

You have a valve turned off or need a plumber if you can't handle it yourself.

Nope...you have to call and request this! The only problem is they vary the turn on charges each year...30 bucks last year and they went back up to 60 this year...I still save a little over the maintenance fee however.
Question, do you smell gas when you open the valve by your fireplace while trying to light it? Are you using an igniter or a match to light it?

That isn't a problem for Atmos. Their job is to get gas to your house which they are doing. You probably need to bleed the line. If that doesn't work, call a plumber.

then it is not the gas providers issue. They are responsible for the gas from their utility mains to the meter. the homeowner is responsible from all piping past the meter.

Clearly the problem is with your gas supplier.

I've noticed while lighting mine that takes a while for the gas to actually reach the fireplace unit. I have to hold the knob on the "Pilot" setting while intermittently clicking the ignite button for about 3-5 minutes.
