Asking for prayers and well wishes for my brother against the C word.

My best friend has been discharging blood for months. He has had intestinal problems for over a year now. He was misdiagnosed with diverticulitis. Now the doctors are suspecting some nonsense and he goes in for a colonoscopy next week. My brother is my best friend, he is one year older than me. We've always been partners, having each other's back through thick and thin. He doesn't even want to talk about it and only mentioned it briefly. He's very prideful, hasn't even told our parents. I ask for prayers and and thoughts that nothing serious or life threatening comes of this as I am scared. Thanks all.

Thank you man. Right now he is stationed at Bliss, hopefully they take care of him. Crappy news on Memorial Day weekend when I'm also remembering a Soldiers I lost in 2014.

Wait so he hasnt been diagnosed with anything?
His symptoms could be due to IBD which would be more common than cancer in a younger person, hope for the best.

He was misdiagnosed with diverticulitis, I assume they would've ruled IBD out if they misdiagnosed him with that. Hopefully you are right but the doctor is more pessimistic. Last year he had an emergency appendix operation, he was hurt so badly it dropped him to his knees. It happened overnight.

Prayers sent my friend.

Colon cancer is very easy to detect with a colonoscopy.
If he's been discharging blood for months, surely he's had one done?
If he has, then it's very unlikely he has cancer if they didn't see it.

Keep your head up, man...I know that it is terrifying, but there are a lot of reasons for this besides cancer. It could be anything from colitis to hemmoroids. Time to go ahead with the colonoscopy so that he can get fixed up and get on with more productive things in life.

Does he smoke?
It's weird but smoking has a bigger risk impact on colon cancer than it does lung cancer.

He quit smoking a few years ago, maybe 4 or 5 years ago. This is his first colonoscopy, they did an mri when they misdiagnosed him with diverticulitis I believe.
And to make matters worse, my great grandfather had colon c.

So the C word you're talking about is colonoscopy and not cancer? Because your brother doesn't have cancer.

Thoughts and prayers for your brother, you and family. Hope it's not very serious. Stay strong, man.

Part of your job through this is to keep him feeling strong and keep his spirits up. You may have to help him think coherently, depending on the effects of his medicine, sleep deprivation, etc. He is counting on you, though he may not realize that yet.
This is also going to take a personal toll on you. You just have to Hulk up, eat right, get your rest and come through it. The other side exists and you will both be there after the treatments, healthy and stronger for having to face this journey.
Good luck.
