At my 90 day review my boss said they would be promoting me as soon as they could. I had to wait till the 6 month mark until company policy allowed me to be promoted.

It was portrayed as a big increase and it got me pretty excited. Today was my 6 month mark and no I'm not panicking already. Just wondering the protocol if a few weeks or month goes by without any movement. Is it acceptable to just say, "hey about that promotion?"

I'm only in a hurry because the wife is going on maternity leave in September and we're trying to allow her to have 12 weeks off, the promotion would certainly make that easier.

Your boss is definitely the best person to consult with about promotion etiquette.

In your review be straight forward about it. Mention that there was an agreement to promote y after 90 days but policy made you wait. Here we are 6 months, does this promotion still hold true?

Flopping your junk on his desk is a solid start

Give it a couple of weeks to see if it goes through. If it doesn't, go in and tell him why you are worth the extra money in a professional manner.

Well she's a chick so.

It was an informal review but I was told, "were going to promote you but we can't until 6 months"

Also, "we brought you in at this level so we could give you a bigger increase at 6 months"

Casually mention to her that your 6-month promotion should be coming up soon. If she says yes, it will, immediately tell her that Monday made 6-months, so...

A lot of companies like to get their employees hopes up early on about big things they'll do for you in the future so you'll either take the job or stick around if you already have it.

People pay me what I think I am worth or I find someone that will. I don't care if you call me the janitor if you pay me right.

Set up a 6 month review and ask about your performance then after discussion ask about the implied promotion. (Only if the feedback was good). She may have played you or it could be in the works. You setting up the meeting will be a good first step.

Now that we know this, think hard: what woman came in after you that your female boss is about to promote instead of you?

I doubt I'm getting the run around. She is very forthcoming with information and doesn't seem like she would throw out promotion without the intent of doing it.

The people hired after me were hired at the next level, they have a lot more years of experience. I make them look stupid on any given day and it shows. They ask me for help.

Sounds like complete bullshite to satisfy you for being underpaid. Just tell them you would like to discuss your career path in the company and set timelines and goals that you can work towards. Keep constant open dialog along the way. If you are worth it and they are a good company, things will go your way

Get what you deserve hiring on. I learned it the hard way with informal promises. Took me a year and three months to get what I was promised in 8 months. I called a meeting with my Manager and his Manager and aired out what was promised to me. It's now been 5 years and I have gained a 35% increase from what I hired on making. Lesson learned.. They aren't going to give you shite, you have to fight for it and timing plays a big part.

In addition to the promotion not being yours, there's something else not yours....
