Congress says, "here buy tanks"

LINK

quote:

In a statement, Rep. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, said that Congress "recognizes the necessity of the Abrams tank to our national security and authorizes an additional $120 million for Abrams tank upgrades.

quote:

Turner chairs the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee and will retain that position in the next Congress. His district includes the General Dynamics Land Systems plant in Lima Ohio, the only U.S. manufacturer of tanks

How in this day and age do we still allow these frickers to get away with this shite?

Pretty sure this happened recently with an airplace, too. The Air Force said they don't need it, and Congress funded it anyway.

You're talking about the A-10, where the Air Force tried to cut the plane altogether. That is probably more of just bad on the Air Force though as the A-10's are absolutely fricking amazing.

I don't think the Air Force wanted to do away with the A-10

If you are talking about what I think you are....entirely different situation.

They want to get rid of the a-10, which is critical to the army, claiming other planes can for the role better. Army even offered to take over the craft. That's how badly they want to keep it.

Congress sided with army and budgeted money to refurbish the fleet.

I read this before in the army times. Seems like the army is shifting towards more lighter infantry brigade combat teams

But it's still 120 mil, and could be better used in a time where troops are suffering due to "budget constraints"
