Not the type of explosion to level a city or even the plant. Just a couple to release some chemicals into the air to make those close by sick it appears.

Good, let's hope it stays that way... the other threads were making this sound apocalyptic.

Problem is, even the CEO of Arkema doesn't know how many residual explosions are possible. Could go on for a week for all they know.

Surprised the evac circle was only 1.5 miles. You'd think it would be larger.

Because of the water, he said, the chemicals will quickly vaporize, reducing the size and scope of the fire.

Didn't see that info thanks

The factory lost power early Sunday, which it needs to refrigerate volatile chemicals. Those chemicals ignite if they get too warm, the company’s CEO, Richard Rowe, said. “Materials could now explode and cause a subsequent intense fire,” Rowe said. “The high water that exists on site, and the lack of power, leave us with no way to prevent it.” “We’re really blocked from taking meaningful action,” he added.

That is great news if they avoided the intense fire.

So this is what happens when they have sustained loss of power?
I wonder if there should be a plan for that.

They do have a plan for when they have a plant blackout. They call them "redundant generators with shite tons of fuel".

What's hard to plan for is "fricking hurricane sits over us for a week, dropping 50 inches of rain and destroying everything".

Also, I'm pissed that all we have are grainy videos. If they knew this stuff was going to go into thermal runaway and detonate, we should have at least gotten some fun video out of this.

This sounds an awful lot like those deputies rode the money train to the hospital. That being said, their employer is an idiot for having them out there guarding the area without a gas mask.

This one isn't much better. There were explosions at the plant, the plant hasn't exploded.

Not necessarily. The radius in the RMP is determined by a release from the largest vessel onsite.

I'm sure theit new generators will be on elevated platforms.

I don't really know why anyone in the south would put a generator on ground level.
