Serious question for dog owners. Does not affect humans. Friends and contacts of mine have said it's only a matter of time until it spreads nationwide. Are you going to get your pets vaccinated?

quote:

A new strain of flu that likely came from Asia has sickened thousands of dogs in the Midwest, experts say.The new dog flu virus, which has not been seen before in U.S. dogs, has infected more than 1,000 dogs and is responsible for six dog deaths in Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana, according to experts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Cornell University who have been collecting and testing samples of the virus.

The canine sickness causes symptoms similar to those of the human flu, such as coughing, nasal discharge, fever and loss of appetite, though a small percentage of dogs can be carriers of the virus without showing symptoms, Poulsen said.

The virus is likely spread through nose-to-nose contact with other dogs, which occurs at doggy day care centers, veterinary clinics and dog parks, he added.

Seems like I've been hearing about the dog flu spreading for a few years now. I'm not vaccinating my dog.

Yeah I'm scared. My dog always gets these things. He's had bird flu, swine flu, and the Ebola so he's bound to get this too.

Probably not even though the vet pushed me to get it late last week

Me and my dog don't really come into contact with other people or dogs

No problem here, I will just shoot them.

No I will not. My daughter is a Vet and they get the best of care. Have one that is about to hit 16 and he is a big dog.

Building up my dog's natural antibodies, no I'm not getting him vaccinated.

I haven't ever had a flu shot, and the last time I got it I was like 10

It's gonna take a while if the only way is direct contact.

Have you been to that region? They are almost all dogs there.
