Are we focusing too much on Mars, and not enough on Europa?

Some of you might be into astronomy / space exploration...

Europa is one of Jupiter's moons that appears to have oceans of water underneath its frozen surface.

NASA is expending much effort and money to determine if Mars had water millions of years ago, but has no real plans to send a mission to Europa anytime soon, even though there is probably water there. We are effectively looking for evidence of extinct life on a dead planet while paying almost no attention to a moon that could have life right now.

That is definitely part of it, however there are no real plans for detailed study of Europa for 20 years or more. Just seems a little out of whack.

or the fact that the temp of that moon might now be sustainable for life @ -171.15°C average temp.

Mars is at -63°C. frick all that, we would all have to be in suits to survive there.

Steps, bro. We should be focusing on the moon first.

We aren't looking for life on the surface CarRamrod.

We're looking for life in the ocean beneath, near small thermal plumes of warm water coming from underneath the ocean floor. Our discovery of organisms living in similar conditions on Earth with little to no interaction with sunlight is what makes it an intriguing possibility.

The temp on mars is survivable with good insulation and such but the pressure is not. You'd need suits.

Plus, Europa is a lot farther away and any search for life is locked below miles of ancient frozen ice.

Also, Europa is outside the habitable zone... I feel like the next step would be to hit what's next in our system... i.e. Mars.

The technology that would have to build itself on Europa just to drill into oceans that may or may not be there simply does not yet exist.

Europa is also too far away from the sun for vegetation to survive.

Our only chance is to mine the entire asteroid field for enough materials to create a ringworld.

If anything more research should be directed to our own oceans. We know more about the moon than the bottom of the ocean and it's a more lucrative venture
