I didn't know ordering shakes all that often was really a thing for adults. But it seems everyone on TD is always trying to order a shake.

Carnation Chocolate malted milk mix
Vanilla ice cream (preferably blue bell)
Milk

add milk and mix first to the blender, then the ice cream. should be half milk and half ice cream.

you'll thank me later, forget about McD's.

I would definitely like to weigh in on this. Every fricking time I go to Jack in the Box late at night to get an oreo cookie ice cream shake they tell me the machine has been taken apart to get cleaned. I'm sick of their lies. I'm not fricking daft. I know they are just being lazy. How is it possible that every time I've gone there I always happen to come at the time the machine is out of order. Lazy fricks. One time I went there and the idiots pretended they weren't even in the building even though there was two cars in the parking lot. I kept saying "hello" at the order machine, and got no answer. Raise the minimum wage my arse.

"shake machine is down" and "shake machine is broken" are 2 totally different things.

The point is they aren't telling the truth. The machine isn't down or broken.

They always tell me the machines are disassembled for cleaning at that time of night. Not sure why they are lying to you.

That is a logical argument, then why don't they say that instead of broken?

they're afraid you might ask them to put it together just for them....

they should simply say it is being serviced, not broken

Wrong...they need to break them down after they close...or put shakes are only offered until a certain time. Its fricking bullshite that they have an item on the menu and it isn't available.

No, they are never broken. My sister worked at McDonald's in high school. They clean them early then claim they are broken. Simple.

Shake machines seem to be down more often the closer to the hood you get.

They break down the machines nightly to clean them and they don't want to have to go through all that work again for you.

They are lazy. they need to be cleaned thoroughly because the contents can make you sick if bad. It is a dumb excuse and if i was the owner of one of those id make damn sure I was selling shakes and ice cream at all times. Especially at night, some people go there only for that.

When you go to sonic, they dont tell you their machines are down.

From another website:
quote:

First of all, everything made with ice cream comes from the same machine. That means shakes, mcflurrys, cones, sundaes, etc. Secondly, I have worked at two different stores and can verify that those machines break all the time. It is often because of the large volume of ice cream orders we get. Even if a part doesn't actually break, the machine cannot keep up with the volume, and the ice cream becomes too soft or runny to make anything with it. It has a hard time keeping the mix cold and turning it into soft serve (we put in a liquid ice cream mix and the machine thickens it up). And when a part does break, it takes forever for maintenance to figure out what is wrong, order a new part, and then fix it once the part arrives. Third, at a certain time in the evening, these machines go into what is called "heat mode". I have never cared to ask why it does this, but I know that it heats up all the contents and is therefore out of order until it is done. So there are multiple factors that can contribute to this, but it could also be lazy employees who don't want to sell ice cream. As a closer, I can tell you that making ice cream at night is a pain in the arse and makes a mess.
quote:

Its a heat treatment supposedly (as far as I have overheard management) to kill off any bacteria. Ours picks a time between 12am to 2am to start, but seems to be after a half-hour after the last usage after a certain time. It will complain if it is not given a chance (aka when third-shift goes on a milkshake binge)

Also, these machines are incredibly complex. For ours, it seems as though if any component does not work 100%, it will lock itself into heat-treat mode until fixed.

Due to the complexity of these machines, only the manufacturer's authorized staff can diagnose/repair these machines. For us, this means a visit or two to analyze the cause of the failure, attempt to fix/repair the failed component, see if that works, and replace something else until it does work. This takes a lot of time, and it takes even more just for them to schedule someone to come over.

Our restaurant had to go the first two weeks of December and the last few days of November without our machine. That meant no eggnog shakes, we were stuck with a lot of leftover pralines, and a whole lot of missed potential sales of shakes/icecreams.

To makes matters worse, its ice creams/milkshakes that often drive sales during mid-afternoon and post-dinner.

In addition, these machines are supposed to be cleaned thoroughly weekly. For us, that's Wednesday mornings.

Tldr: those machines are needier than our front counter staff.
