Considering going down there this weekend but don't want to end up with a flooded car

It's Saturday, pumps are closed.

They've never really worked. They function sometimes but are never really working.

Nothing works in Nola. It's part of the charm.

I saw where they said 16 pumps weren't working. I have not seen the total pump count. Anyone know? Just wondering what percentage this works out to.

Are we talking about the pumps of new orleans or the citizens of new orleans?

It is around 116 iirc.

Stop asking racist questions like that. We've got more statues to focus on.

From CNN:
"New Orleans uses 120 pumps spread across every neighborhood to suck water out of storm drains and canals and push it out of the levee-enclosed city."
"Sixteen pumps were out of service over the weekend, making things even worse for a drainage system that already was working above its capacity, and streets began flooding. Six of those pumps were big ones located in neighborhoods that got the most rain; three others were big ones elsewhere in the city."
"A small control-panel fire late Wednesday took out one of four turbines that power the city's oldest, strongest pumps, the mayor said. The other three turbines had been offline for weeks or months for repairs. A fifth turbine has been pressed into action to operate the oldest pumps, but only 38 of the 58 available pumps can be run at one time, city officials have said."
So the oldest pumps have 4 turbines, and only 1 was even operational at the time. Damn, that is pretty bad.

The pumps are working 100%...the ones that aren't broken.

No, and I hope it doesn't rain too much today because my husband is taking us to the WWII museum.

Mitch talked about the repairs a bunch. So there's that.

That's not what your quoted part said.....
The power station was down on limited capacity on how many pumps it could power at one time.

Mitch said they'd do everything they can to get them working. You can trust that man so you'll be good.

Read the quote again. There were 4 turbines at the time, with only 1 operational. That operational one caught fire recently, so a 5th has been brought online to replace the one that caught fire. That 5th one that was just brought online can only power some of the older pumps.
And it looks like these turbines that are being discussed in the 3rd quote I put are only for the older pumps, not the newer ones.
Edited to replace "pumps" with "turbines", my bad.

Landrieu just said that there are 17 pumps out of commission.

I got it the first time.
But let's read your part again.

So the pump powered the pump?
All I'm saying is in that section, they are just talking about turbines that generate power for the pumps. Not pumps themselves.
That one turbine generates enough power for 38 of the applicable 58 pumps, which is itself a segment of the 120 overall pumps. Which pumps that are running of the 58 however can rotate around to limit gaps.
That is worlds different from saying "Pumps have 4 turbines, and only one was working."
Especially because technically speaking, it's impossible for a pump to have a turbine. By definition, turbines extract mechanical energy from a fluid. Pumps impart it.

He's getting some pump emergency repair event shirts embroidered as we speak. It's got an American flag on it and everything.
