Are Sonicare toothbrushes really that great or is it a racket with dentists?

Every DDS I've ever been to pimps these things hard. I've gone 23 years with no cavities using a manual brush. Are these things worth the cheddar or is it some racket that Phillips has with dentists?

I spent $200 on mine and it made my teeth worse.

Absolutely nowhere in the instruction manual did it say you actually had to use it to see results. Lawsuit pending.

They have them on Amazon for like $30.

My wife got one and I used it once on vacation (yes, that is gross). I was a doubter, but it was incredible. Ordering mine soon.

Your mouth feels incredibly clean afterwards.

How in the world have teeth and gums ever survived prior to sonicare?

Things can improve, you know. Even if something is working, it doesn't mean it can't get better.

Horse and buggies worked great, no need for that damn automobile.

Works good but I ended up going back to a traditional toothbrush. A waterpik is an awesome investment though

Yeah it was gross, but not as gross as having rank arse teeth and breath at a rehearsal dinner.

I ran it under hot water for a while

I forgot my toothbrush and we were crunched for time.

Two things: 1) it's legit. I have a diamond clean and really like it. 2) My wife's a dental hygienist and tells me that some people have to care for their teeth more than others (genetics). I'm one of those people, so I got it and noticed a big difference at check ups. But I also have two friends that smoke and dip that have never had a cavity and don't seem to go to the dentist often but when they do, everything is good, so my final answer is yes it's legit but only buy it if you're one of the people that need something better than the $5 brush.

My cousin knows a Dentist who used to be a Navy Seal and while wearing some Oakleys he drank a handle of Jack Black one time and told someone that they cause cavities.

I generally don't recommend a sonicare toothbrush to pts with excellent oral hygiene and no history of dental decay because more often than not, they already have one.

It's the patients that come in with bleeding gums and a mouth full of tooth decay/ fillings that I recommend the automated toothbrushes to.

One of the big advantages of the sonic toothbrushes is that they run for at least two minutes, which is the prescribed amount of time for brushing your teeth. If you stop before it stops, you immediately know you didn't brush for long enough.

Keep in mind that studies show that when you give patients a manual toothbrush and ask them to brush for two minutes and time them without them knowing, the average patient brushes for 35 seconds!! About one quarter of the time they need to brush.

I think this is a big deal. I normally just pass along the cost of the brush plus tax and shipping and don't look at it as a revenue center. I want my patients to be healthy.
