GE dryer quit working this morning before the storm. The knob to the cycle selector is not giving any resistance (or clicks) when turning. The knob itself is not broken.

Anyone know where I can find a new timer mechanism in or around BR? I've found the part online, but I'm leaving to go on a trip and need to have the dryer fixed before I go.

Yes. Started calling around to the places I found on google with no luck. Wondering if anyone here had a recommendation.

Edit: I just noticed you said it's not clicking. Did you do the idiot check first? Pull the knob off an make sure it's not stripped out/cracked... make sure it's not just the knob spinning.

You sure it's the timer and not the actual start switch?

I haven't been home since the storm hit and I am going to check with a meter, but something is definitely wrong with the mechanism, it no longer clicks or stops.

I'm guessing it's the ball bearings. It's all about ball bearings these days.

I edited my earlier post... did you pull the knob off and make sure it wasn't cracked or stripped causing it to not turn the stem?

Have you checked the Johnson rod for stress fractures?

Located under the knob by the exhaust hole.

check breaker first.

If working then check dryer.

turn off breaker before doing any electrical work.

Remove face plate and knob. see if the actual dial selector is turning freely. If the post of the dial is turning freely inside the dial, it's toast. I have seen one before where the dial mount screw was loose and the post was not turning but the entire dial was moving with knob movement. simple fix there just properly remount the dial.

Also check the door closed kill switch. If it is not operating properly it will not run.

Turned the knob post with a pair of pliers and had the same result. Tried pressing the start button at different intervals but still nothing.

Could be a bad thermal fuse. It's a $20 part.
