Except for the whole "Let's vote yes on any proposition to raise taxes" thing.

He owns about 1/2 of Hawai'i so I'd listen to him.

pretty interesting statistics on inability of start ups to attract talent due to lack of housing and cost. Austin has capitalized why not NOLA?

Isn't that part of their problem? They voted to prevent property tax increases years ago, without cutting their social spending. Now they're in massive debt.

current property taxes i think have eliminated that debt. but yes prop 13 does cap your tax liability.

If I'm not mistaken AOL was going to make a big investment in the city in 1998 or so by relocating a good bit of their staff, they looked at the schools and general dysfunction and passed. Unfortunately little has changed.

Don't forget LA has a homestead exemption. The first 75K of your homes worth is not taxed. Plus, some greased palms to the assessor a million dollar house on State Street can be assessed at about 500k.

I think NOLA has the culture to attract young engineers/coders and the ability to provide housing at a more affordable cost. I might be biased though and want you guys to take some of the techies off our hands

Austin getting Google Fiber and having gigabit speeds of internet helps them tremendously when it comes to start-ups believe it or not.

Real estate for buyers and renters here are out of sight. Very little affordable, even in sketchy areas. It is insane.
