Kash i actually had two legit ot 5's in my first engineering class. Engineering isnt just for nerds anymore.

In truth, by the time you make it to your first actual engineering class (usually statics), most of the "will not make its" will have been weeded out. If you can make it though the calcs, phys, and chems, you're generally good to go.

Maybe this is true in Civil or something, but not in ME for sure. Physics was a pain because the teaching sucked, but Thermo, Heat Transfer, Fluids, etc. were all much harder than the pre-req classes.

I am kind of crookedly a first/second semester sophmore right now. Wasn't too bad so far. Just a helluva lot of work.

Everything (calc, phys, chem) is supposed to weed people out, and the second weeding comes with statics, thermo, and dynamics from what I hear. Really cuts back on the number of engineering students. Those are the legitimate weed out classes

My wife (no pics) and I both started in engineering. We both hated it and switched majors at our respective schools.

How hard is it, really? For instance, med school and dental school are "hard" by most people"s standards - but everyone generally does okay because they are, for the most part, elite students when they enter (and have been accepted because of their qualifications). Does it just appear to be hard because random average students decide they want to be an engineer and give it a go, so a lot who don't belong their in the first place end up failing? How large are most of the classes? I took pre-med at UNO, and we were taking essay tests in subjects like biochemistry and genetics, while my friends in pre-med at LSU were taking multiple choice tests due to the large class sizes. Fwiw, I came close to going the engineering route because I was a freakin' mathematical genius - and I'm glad my 14 year old plans on going to LSU for ME. Thank god he didn't choose dentistry.

It's kinda difficult but doable. I'm sure it's not as hard as med school, but it is a different way of thinking.

I hate engineering btw.

Hard to compare, but it is hard. Heavy math.

fat kid couldn't hack it in engineering but went into construction management and makes just as much as most PE's that don't own their own firm

if my "Engineering" group from Tiger day was any indication of ability, i'm shocked it's only 1/3

I believe it, but he's stuck in construction. Hard way to make a living.

I took the ME thermos (both), fluids, dynamics, vibrations, machine design, etc., and yes, they are more difficult than the prep classes, but I wasn't asserting otherwise. My point is that if you have the analytical skills to get through the intitial classes, then you most likely have the ability to adapt to the level of difficulty of the subsequent classes. You just have to adjust your level of dedication because it's a hell of a lot more work.

We took statics in our second semester.

When I went through thermo and statics a few years ago, those weeded a lot of people out as well. But the thermo ones tended to just drop out of ME and go to civil or industrial. I'm guessing the ones who couldn't get past statics just dropped engineering altogether.

The picture is actually pretty spot on, funny to think about now.
