I have seen a couple surveys/stories in the very recent past, and I think I am recalling them correctly, that maybe only 35% or 45% of Americans watch the Super Bowl.

I don't find that number shockingly low, but it is a bit lower than I would have expected. I'm sure the majority non-watchers come from soccer-loving immigrants (Mexico, Central America, India, Middle East, etc.) and snooty liberals who think that football is beneath them, and people working in places where watching is not an option.

Anyone else not watching? Anyone find those statistics surprising? Or think they are wrong?

FULL DISCLOSURE:

I am a CFB fan, so to me, football ends in early-January. I haven't cared for the NFL much since I was a teenager. In the last 20 years, I may have watched 3 SBs in full, and maybe bits and pieces of 3 more. The NFL's politics have turned me off even further this season.

My actual preference is to do something fun that would normally be crowded on Super Bowl Sunday. I have gone to Broadway plays and skiied in Utah on that Sunday afternoon, among MUCH smaller crowds than would be normal.

I'll be watching this year, because I have a healing broken ankle; been cooped-up for two weeks, and some friends have invited us to their watch-party.

I'll watch some of it. If the game is good, I'll watch a lot of it.

The days of 3 network tv channels and nothing else worth watching are long since past. People are also much busier than years ago.

I was not questioning the AMOUNT!

Hell, 10% of China is a lot of fricking people too.

There are people who are simply not sports fans.

I am watching.. I am not like "ooooooo its the Super Bowl! Yes... I have to watch!". I keep up with football all year long and there has never been a time when I didn't watch the SB.. going as far back as I can remember.

An average NFL game will draw a ratings in the low 20s.. Meaning 20 million people. You take the Super Bowl and add in people who watch for other reasons and it will be higher. Last year, in the US the tv ratings were in the mid 40s.. You have 300 million people in the US so 35% - 45% is probably a little higher than I thought.

Either way, its still idea for advertisers.. If they can reach out to 45 million people, that's pretty good.

I know right, I mean can you believe only 120 million to 150 million are going to watch. Unbelievable.

Not watching will be driving from Dallas to Houston. I left for the weekend to avoid the madness.
