Which station are you looking at?

Also, I'm not sure how you've got a NASA offer right now, there's an executive order stopping all federal hiring right now.

Having said that, subcontracting to NASA is typically the better gig at the moment. AFOSR, AFRL, and other Air Force departments have picked up most of the cool NASA research projects.

The NASA people I know the best at Redstone have basically said their jobs are barely above paper pushing at the moment.

I play Kerbal Space program. It's practically the same thing. Just keep the pointy end pointed toward space and you'll be fine, unless you're trying to not be in space anymore. Then, point the pointy kinda parallel to the ground, but don't forget to flip around and point the pointy end back toward space somewhere in the middle of not being in space anymore.

Worked at a NASA facility. NASA employees that I worked with were basically project managers.

I may have an opportunity to work for them in the near future.

OP, what are your questions?

I worked as an engineer for 14 years with the prime contractor for spaceflight operations at Johnson Space Center (so my employer was not NASA). I am pretty close friends with a dozen NASA employees (TX, CA & FL), and a few of them have been there just over, or just under, 20 years.

My experience is ISS (active) and Shuttle (retired). How can I help?

Probably. NASA has a plant in New Orleans.

Not many civil servants are employed there. Stennis Space Center employs many though.

If it's NASA, then the proper term is "Custodial Engineer."

No, but when I was a kid, our next door neighbor was an engineer at NASA and he gave me a few homemade "bombs" out of God knows what packed in a 35mm film canister. At the very least, I could've blown of a limb, or killed myself at worst.

But, it was 1980-something, and we weren't pussies.

Man, those bombs were awesome...

I am close friends with a former Facilities Engineer at Michoud (Lockheed Martin). So HVAC, conveyors, hydraulics, etc.

That was 10-12 years ago. If this is your facility, let me ping him. I know his wife posts on here, and I am pretty sure he does too.

Mike D... you out there?? Stephanie??

No, not there, but they are cleaning up a huge swath of destruction at Michoud from last week's tornado.

Any facilities jobs at Michoud will be for the current facilities site contractor S3. Be careful with that. Company changes every few years, but you just change badges. Pay isn't good either, especially not on the level as it was with LM when they had facility responsibility.
