I was watching the movie earlier and decided to see if the hotel still existed. It's called "The Stanley Hotel" and is considered haunted.

Yes, I have. Nothing happened but I was pretty drunk. My brother said he heard some noises all night.

The also filmed Dumb and Dumber there

Fixed the typo, cannot fix the other due to size limit in title

Stayed down the road from it and had drinks there. Neat old place. It was the inspiration for the book but wasn't used in the movie. The exterior scenes for that was shot at the Timberline Lodge at Mt Hood, Oregon.

I did a long time ago. Awesome place with strange stories. I didn't see or hear anything, but it is creepy.

Never stayed there but went by and took a pic the other day on the way in to RMNP. It's pretty creepy looking cause it's so old.

It's nowhere near worth what they charge. Go by and walk around if you're in Estes though.

We stayed there 15+ years ago. It was kind of eerie but fun. We both had little odd exeriences there...for instance noises in a broom closet rhat ceased when the door was opened. One entire wing of the hotel was off limits because they were filming for one of those paranormal investigative shows at the time.

This - we did this a few years ago and that was enough for us. It is an interesting place.
FWIW - just about every little old town in Colorado has an interesting old hotel. If you have the time and interest check them out.
I particular like The Strater Hotel in Durango.

Crashed a wedding there once. Good times.

It was used in the TV miniseries "The Shining" and the movie "Dumb and Dumber" but was only the inspiration for book/movie.

It is a bit spooky walking the grounds late at night.

I wonder if the movie fricked up their popularity

What exactly did you do to "crash" the wedding?

I've toured it but, didn't stay. It was a really neat place. Elk graze on the grounds in the summer.
