I have a trip coming up and would appreciate recommendations on great restaurants/beaches/activities. I'm staying in Wailea and will have a vehicle for travel.

The only items currently on the list are sunrise at Haleakala, and taking the road to Hana. There is a beach by our hotel, Ulua Beach, that is supposed to be good for snorkeling.

Does anyone know if Molokini crater is worth snorkeling or diving? I've seen mixed reviews.

TIA

No, not one single person has ever been there. Do you know who you are asking? Somebody here owns Maui!!!

I went when I was younger. The whale watching was legit, but that was in winter when the momma whales were giving birth to cute baby whales. We also did the helicopter volcano/waterfall tour, which was cool. I went before I was scuba certified, but I can imagine the diving is probably nice. Our hotel had one of those pig roast luaus exactly like the one in forgetting Sarah Marshall...it was totally cheesy but entertaining anyway

Besides that, we just relaxed by the water. It was an awesome vacation, and totally relaxing!

maybe a couple of hundred times, Haleakala bike trip is the best thing going, def. road to Hana, zip line through rain forest, Lindbergh's grave(road to Hana,) best luau is in Lahaina, Molokini, parasail, you won't have any problems finding out about these things over there

ETA: if you've got a pair, drive around the tip of the island the opposite way from Hana

Thanks for the tips. I've been to Hawaii a few times, but never Maui. I've done the surf lessons, shark cage dive, and luau. I want to spend more of this trip just enjoying the island.

It's freezing and windy at the top of Haleakala so be prepared for that. I've always been meh on snorkling but the snorkling in Maui was ridiculous.

Road to Hana, hike the four falls, molokini trip is worth it. My second time we couldn't go cause of wind so they took us to Turtle Bay and we just happened to have 2 adolescent whales fight 20 ft from the boat. I recommend Pacific Whale Foundation. We stayed in Kihei, it's south of laihaina and isn't as touristy. Plus Kamaole Beach 3 is amazing shore snorkeling.

good snorkeling out of that park a couple of miles south of Kihei, usually see some sea turtles, dolphins, etc., definitely wear aqua socks

Living and vacationing there are complete opposites. I lived there a year and hated it. Once you do all the touristy things...being stuck on an island sucks.

I have been scuba diving off Molokini twice and thought it was awesome. Water is clear as can be and the life down there is amazing. Much better than the diving just off the coast in Kihie, Kaanapali, or probably anywhere for that matter. First time was better than the second b/c we saw big sharks and rays.

Would think that if only snorkeling, you can see the same things just off the coast. Probably not worth it then.

Molokini used to be part of a gunnery range, and the bottom of that crater is filled with inert slugs, if you've got a good set of lungs, you can get down there and get a handful while snorkeling.

I went to Ni?ihau three years ago.

It's small and beautiful.

Also, no Samoan's.

TPOS

That can kick anyone's arse, and they know it.

Merriman's for a nice meal at night
Mama's fish house for a good lunch with an awesome view of the northshore
Road to Hana - Venus pool, banana bread, don't turn around when you get to Hana. There is some insane uninhabited views on the far east/south side of the island. It will turn to a dirt road at some point but it is absolutely worth it. You go around some turns on the side of the mountain that have no guard rails and its 100'+ straight down to the ocean. I stopped to take a leak and when I stepped out of the car it was like moon dust, looked like no person had been there in a long time.

sadly,it's becoming less of an adventure, the last time I went, I'm pretty sure they had made a nice road out of the old trail, but it's beautiful to keep going all the way around, definitely do not turn back(the first time I went to Maui, early '80's, all of the rental car instructions warned to NOT keep going, I took that as a direct challenge, figured there was something cool up there)
