Absurd, man. I can literally walk out my back door and go hiking in mountainous terrain that people spend small fortunes to visit. We have elk, deer, bear, and moose hunting and I live 45 minutes from three ski resorts. Meanwhile, Spokane as a city has every single entertainment option Baton Rouge has, without the crime, heat, humidity and ugly scenery.
As for that 3-4 hour drive argument, you have the beach and that's it. Leave BR in any other direction and you get, what- Mississippi? East Texas? Shreveport? Alabama? Same shitty flatness, same scenery, same demographics. In a four hour drive, I can be in Seattle or Yellowstone or Whitefish, Montana, or Canada, all very different places with their own identities.

See, this illustrates the problem with Boise. You're throwing Spokane into the conversation with Boise even though it is 421 miles away.
That's like Baton Rouge to Dallas, or Huntsville Alabama to Cincinnati.

You don't have to argue how badass Boise is. You had me at 96% white

I just looked up the tax rates and I'm kinda shocked at how high they are. They'll never draw a big corporate presence in from California and NY. Corporations are taxed at a flat rate of 7.4%. Washington is only 3.2% black and has much lower taxes. Wyoming is even better in this regard.

I moved to Boise from northern Louisiana and lived there for 6 years. I loved everything about Boise
- Very Clean, people take pride in that and don't litter.
- Great downtown and bar scene.
- Very pedestrian friendly. Bike paths connect the whole city and run adjacent to the Boise River.
- Low Crime. It's actually a big deal if someone gets shot.
- Hiking, Biking, Skiing, Rafting, Kayaking all within an hours drive or less.
- The people really are very nice.
-Conservative, but in more of a libertarian way than down south. Mormons are less judgmental than Baptists.
- People there are generally health conscious and keep in shape.
- I loved Idaho because of all the wilderness. No need to camp in campsites, the whole state is your campsite. There are endless mountainous areas to explore.
One thing to note is that Boise is full of transplants, so it's easy to make friends if you move there. Also Idahoans don't like Californians. Thus the "Keep California out of Idaho" bumper stickers.
