Anyone have a relative's gun from the war who served in WW I or WW II?
Posted by tiger81 on 5/15/15 at 4:15 pm30
We have my grandfather's 1911 Colt .45 automatic with its leather holster that is embroidered on the side with the letters "US". He was an army captain in WWI. This is the same model Colt .45 that Clyde Barrow had on him when he was killed.

Scruffy's grandpa has a Japanese rifle with bayonet and a knee mortar like the one in the picture.
Pretty sure it was called a knee mortar.
He tried to bring back one of the German machine guns, but someone took it while he was on shore leave.

I've got a few. My dad has all my grandfather' loot he sent home from Germany, including a pretty bad arse Nazi knife collection.
The coolest is a Hitler youth blade he sent back.

i haven't gotten it yet but I have my grandfathers 911 from WWII. My grandmother has it. But I didnt have a case to bring it back after the funeral, and forgot it last christmas when I drove to see her
My pop was in the 11th Airborne. "Hell from Heaven"
I have his carbine and his 1911, it is a Remington.
I also have a Nambu pistol he got at some point.
Snow trigger guard version.
Granddad was in the Army for WWI but didn't get overseas, his unit was one of the first to get ambushed by the "Spanish" Influenza in the Midwest.

That's pretty cool. It was called a "knee mortar" by the G.I.'s who encountered it. But it's really more of a grenade launcher.
Type 89 grenade discharger
The Japanese did eventually develop a dedicated round for this weapon but most of the time, it was used to launch the standard Type 91 Fragmentation Grenade.

I have a Japanese rifle somewhere, I think it is at my mother's house. I forget where my dad got it from, I think he got it from his uncle who was a 4 star general.

Understandable, that will require a huge case.
I wound up with a 1911 and a pair of garands.

Springfield 1903. Thing kicks like a mule.
I think the military still uses a variant of it.
