I'm thinking about flying standby this afternoon, haven't bought a ticket yet. Anyone ever have luck with this and would I be paying an exuberant fee?

I don't think of these as the same thing

I'm not sure what you mean. Would you buy a ticket for the last flight of the night (cheapest) then try to fly earlier in the day?

i have several times, but I get priority status from a family member. It depends on where youre going and what time.
if it's through someone you know, have them check online to see how many people will be on the flight

We do just about every time. No real issues

I've flown standby many times, but it was with a pass, not just showing up to the airport without anything.
I always had good luck getting the right flights.

To my knowledge, it's never been done.

Technically, you're aren't standing by if you are flying. Once you are flying, you aren't standing by any longer. You are standing by to try to get a seat to fly. Therefore, you cannot fly standby.

Well, I mean, if you are extremely happy about paying the fee, then that is up to you.

I haven't found their fees to be too exuberant, and have had good luck flying standby on weekends where there aren't an exorbitant amount of people trying to fly.
Better luck in the early morning and you have all day to try.

what's your definition of this?

I did once, when I was in college going to Miami on spring break. I was doing it with a buddy so that obviously changed things as opposed to if you're just going solo.
We got to the airport at like 4:30am. Missed the first flight but got lucky and caught the 2nd. I think tickets were like $40 one way. I was thinking standby is the way to go! Problem was trying to come back. It was Sunday and we had class the next day, and all flights were booked with no standby options. We couldnt' afford to wait around all night on a chance, and the next available flight they could put us on was like 5 hours later in the day which we more or less were forced to take. $350 one way.
So, I guess it depends on if you have a lot of free time to wait around hoping.

I'm trying to fly to vegas, tickets are 800 to 1000

Are you talking about showing up without a ticket in hopes of buying a cheap seat at the ticket counter at the last minute?
That's not standby, and if you try that, good luck, but I don't see it happening these days.

OT ballers take private jets only.

That looks like a pack of Juicy Fruit. My private jet is a custom 747. Looking at an A380 right now.
OP: I've done it without issue. It helps if you have status with the airline though.
