There are some pilots on this forum.

I didn't do a discovery flight, but jumped right into lessons and wrapped up my Private Single Engine Land within the last 6 months.

Did you get an online deal? If not, I would suggest going to Gulf Coast Aviation at Lakefront and getting set up with an instructor--heard bad things about Flight Academy, but no personal experience. If you're going to pay for a flight you may as well do it with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and get credit for it. But most importantly take the time to see if you are comfortable with the CFI in case you want to proceed. I had several instructors (for various reasons) and they can definitely make or break the experience.

The biggest thing to understand is that it is about an $8-$10,000 investment--lessons, tests, study guides, etc. Hell the final Checkride alone costs $500. Also, depending on your schedule, it usually takes 6-12months.

I bought a plane early on so that I would be "paying" myself for the plane rental, but mostly bc I wanted to be comfortable in the plane I was going to be flying.

Sorry for the novel... Feel free to ask any questions at all, and I'd be more than happy to help.

It will be great, it is a complex, and challenging environment, but very few things are more rewarding than learning to fly. As you progress through the lessons you will have times when you feel like your mind can't handle everything that is going on, everything you do is wrong, you are just physically and mentally beaten. You tell yourself that once you are back on the ground you will never get in a plane again, but you do go up again and it all comes together, you and the plane are working together as one, you land smiling and can't wait to do it again.
