we have inventory this week and my "number 2" guy has only done one so I'm already worried about that. he has to do an order too, which I've already written, but still worried about. I've shown him how to do everything and left a novel of detailed instructions for him and the other 2 guys I have working for me, but I'm just expecting the worst in this.

plus we have 2 guys from the corporate office that were supposed to be here today, but will be there tomorrow.

it's just the perfect storm weekend that just had to happen on the weekend I took off over 6 months ago.

is this normal to be a basket case or are the OT ballers usually leaving their work at work?

I don't ever think about work when I'm off.

Any responsibility at any job has stress. Just trust they will do what you have set for them to do. Don't worry once you leave, we all need down times from our jobs.

No, I don't. When I'm off, I'm off. If something gets screwed up I'll deal with it when I get back.

No, I am the same way. It's just more shite you have to fix cause your backfill fricked up. Plus complaints that you didn't do a good enough job of transitioning.

The best thing I can do is turn my work phone off and don't check email.

It just means that you give a shite. No matter what you do this tends to happen. Just know that you have trained them well and be available if they need help. Its all you can really do.

Nope. If I'm not there, not my problem. And if the backups they hired are too much of idiots to do some simple shite, it's still not my problem

There are times when I take my laptop with me if I'll be gone 2-3 weeks

Yep. Delegation is the key. When they do well praise them, when they frick up show them why and how it could have been done better.

What are you expecting? If you can anticipate likely negative outcomes, come up with some contingency plans for when you get back, and then table it until you do get back. Best case scenario, nothing goes wrong. Worst case scenario, you've already created a plan for it and you execute that plan when you get back. Enjoy your vacation.

All that said, I know when you care about something, it's really difficult to tell your brain to ignore it.

I spent an hour detailing every little fricking thing making it idiot proof because if something gets fricked up, I'm the one who deals with my manager, not them

I delegate as much as I can to him to prepare him for when I'm out, but I still can't help but worry.

I'm expecting to come back to an inventory number $5000 less than last time, 20-30 out of stocks, sales of less than $30k, and an order than was forgotten to be placed.

I'm quite the pessimist.

3 for ss

TH, I think you're taking the grape and nut stocking biz a little too srs

What if BL was finishing your abstract. Would you be freaking out like this? It could lead to a much more costly error

And would you be sweating the blowback from jo this badly?

Jobs suck, get used to it. It'll be better when you die and not a moment sooner.

this is the very reason that I have started teaching people who work for me how to do all of the tasks associated with my job...

they actually enjoy learning something new and being prepared for further advancement...and I can get a chance to work them through it with me there for damage control instead of just handing off and worrying about it getting done right...
