Anyone done 23andMe DNA kit?

We're you happy with the results? Worth the price?
Does it tell you both risks for health conditions and ancestry (i.e. What region of Europe my ancestors 1000 years ago came from)?
Wife and I are thinking about it because I can get the kits at a discount. Not sure about sending my DNA off though...

No but that’s because of my genetics not the company.

Yeah I did it. Waste of money IMO. Jist told me what I already knew. Well and that my family saying we're part Indian was bullshite.

I did it. It was neat. I think there are 2 different options, one for ancestry & one for health/traits. I have one of the two genes for age related macular degeneration (doesn’t increase my risk), no late onset Alzheimer’s, and muscles common in elite power athletes. I can also taste bitter & smell asparagus pee. Woo.
It does tell more about ancestors and how far back each area likely was. It’s interesting.

They have a website that tells you all this information.
You might need to try 24 and me.

What exactly did it tell you that you already knew? Health risk stuff or ancestry stuff?
I know I'm mostly French, but I can't trace it back more than about 150 years.
I know my recent relatives have certain health issues, but don't k ow much beyond that.

For what it’s worth, my fam was told the same, and my brother & sis both came back with 0% Native American. We thought we’d been lied to by relatives. Then I took the test & I have 0.4% NA. So they just didn’t inherit it.

If you ever commit a crime your DNA is open to LEO if they request it from 23andMe.

The website for the company that sells it will tell me if it's worth the price?
Sounds trustworthy.

Was OK, but disappointed that my report showed a high percentage of northern European without being specific.
Yes they will send you reports on potential health issues you request this information.

Definitely ancestry, but the health stuff is all pretty elementary stuff that you'll know if you get regular checkups. Then there's stuff like are you able to smell asparagus in pee and just dumb stuff like that. Personally I wish I'd saved that $100.

This is how mine looked:
It measures a ton of health & traits, so those are harder to screen shot.

Snark noted, but this dumb question:

Can be answered from the website. Which is why I suggested you may have an extra chromosome.
So ha!!! The last laugh is mine.
And I got it for my wife, she was excited to find out all the genetic shite, not my thing but it made her happy. We opted not to do the disease portion though, we like surprises.

Your raw genetic data is where the money's worth comes from. Plug it into a site like promethease.com and pay the extra $5, and you won't feel like the other $100 was such a waste. here's a few snippets from my promethease report.
Thousands more like that, but of course not all are as interesting or based on strong studies.

You seem to have good breeding stock.

I’m a healthy mayflower descendant with genetically superior muscles. Get in line, fellas.

Mostly NW European, could have just said genetically racist.
