I think I can't fly them OVER the crowds but if I get up high enough from right spot you will be able to see a lot of stuff and be far enough away to not be breaking FAA law or interfere with the actually police work.

Let me check. Now that I think about it, it may be just a safety guideline not an actual law.

Gotcha, I remember something about flying over crowds of people...but I mean for example my neighborhood is not marked as a no fly zone and I live in the middle of town. I have a Phantom and the app marks off no fly zones.

OK, thanks. Guidelines are a way for them to infringe on freedom without necessarily making something illegal.
