Looking to take a little vacation sometime in late august or after labor day and was thinking of renting a pet friendly house on Lake Hamilton. Plan on bringing my dogs so they can come and run around and swim and my boat as well. Anyway to those that have been is it nice and worth a trip or are there better options within the same or shorter drive?

Other options that may be a possibility are Lakes Livingston and Rayburn over in Texas.

I went there a few times when I was a kid but that was about 30 years ago. It was alright from what I remember.

Lake Ouichita is the lake to be on. Houseboat rentals are great

We love it up there. My kids go to Camp Ozark in the summer so we usually rent a cabin before or after their session . That being said, once you've been through Hot Springs once you've probably seen and done everything there is to do but if your thing is renting a cabin and enjoying BBQ and a great view then it's a great place

No sweet time shares doing promos with Nicklaus design championship courses?

I know a guy who did that.

Never vacationed in Arkansas or even a lake for that matter. Always go over to fort Morgan or dauphin island and bring the dogs, just looking to do something different this time around.

Love it. Go see Garvin Gardens for the waterfalls and beautiful scenery with nature trails etc.... Also, be sure to go to the "bath houses" which are huge indoor whirlpools which run off natural hot springs water which are scattered all around town. I loved it and we stayed at a nice location on a lake (can't remember name). It's a laid back town that is made up of a lot of middle age people. Lots of antique shops if your woman is in to that. The scenery is beautiful. I would recommend it to anyone.

lsu mike, this is where we stayed. LINK The Country Inn. Reasonable rates, a balcony over the lake and your own bbq pit.

We were just there 3 weeks ago. The town has really become revitalized in the past 15 years since there last. We rented a house on Lake Hamilton thru VRBO. It had a boat dock and was in a great location. Our Aunt has a house boat, swam and boated al day and then went downtown at night. The downtown area of HS was fun to walk around. Brewery there now at Superior Bathhouse was good. The Ohio Club, where Capone hung out was cool as hell. The patio area outside of Rolando's was possibly the coolest patio dining area EVER!
Go- it's a great weekend get away!

That's what I'm looking to do so I can bring my boat and pups with us. Was yours pet friendly? Have always had good luck with vrbo.

The Great Passion Play/Shepard of the Hills- from what I've heard, and the area isn't as "churchy" as it once was.

Lake Hamilton is definitely the busiest lake in that area. I prefer Degray. It's about 20 minutes south of there and is a great place to fish and ski. It's is on state land, so their are no houses on the lake, which is nice. Degray lake state park is a nice place to stay with plenty of things to do like golf, hiking, horseback riding, etc. Another nice place on the lake to stay Is Iron Mountain. They have very nice cabins that will sleep bigger groups.
