And what did you feed him/her? My dog is 8 years old. He's getting fat.

He's always eaten science diet.

Oh well. I didn't see/hear anything about it on the news yesterday, and it's like 6 pages deep in the OT. And the reference I found was a bad link, so I'll leave it for those who don't know.

There's been at least 6 threads but that's none of my business.

frick. Maybe I'll kill it, then. It's still early. Not many have seen this yet.

Might as well. You'll just get 50 replies asking if it happened in Berlin and what not.

Amount of food daily needs to be reduced and no table scraps.

Yeah, but he puts it right back on every time I try to get him to quit smoking.

We had to restrict ours diet and, upon advice of vet, got him food with carnitine. He's lost about 10 lbs in last 6 months. 10 more and he'll be okay. He's a big dog, but shouldn't be that big.

Nature Valley Weight Control of something like that. Not prescription.

Good luck.

Yes, I have an old Lab that I put on Science Diet, diet food. She lost about 10 lbs, getting around way much better. My daughter, a Vet, told me NOT to feed my lab NO MORE then 3 eight oz cups a day. My Lab has been on this diet a bout 1 1/2 months.

My lab is also about 8. He was pushing 97lbs. and vet said cut back food by 30/40%. We did that and he's lost about 8lbs. (6wks), he'll be good at 85lbs. NO table scraps or high fat stuff! Be patient, it take a while. Good luck!

Probably would have had better responses in the Outdoor Board.....

We've tried fat shaming, but it hasn't worked. She seems oblivious.

Activity level?

A little like people - proper portions and activity levels regulate weight.

Keep calling it fat.

That's what I did and now she wakes up early and goes for a jog every morning.

I suggest feeding the dog less food.

My dog is a beagle mix from the shelter that is built like a sausage. From the day my wife got her the vet was always concerned about her weight.

Walked her once a day....nothing
Walked her twice a day....nothing
Put her on special appetite meds and increased the dose until she became too lethargic to do anything.
Tried a special weight management food and she refused to eat it.

My brother in law commented one day that she stands like a bull dog. We looked up beagle/bull dog mix pictures, and they all looked exactly like my dog.

So my dog isn't fat, she's just big boned.

Natural balance reduced calorie formula. Good stuff. My cavalier got up to 22 lbs this year. She was fat. Put her on this stuff in February. down to 19.2 and looks healthy. Stuff works.

Science diet: corn crap.
