...and no, not the kind that leaks from your asses periodically.
I'd like to know exactly what a Pipeliner does.
Thanks in advance.

So what does an entry level pipeliner do during the course of a day?

Absolutely nothing 95% of the time. It's the same thing as a "weld inspector" or a "nurse anesthetist." they get paid a shite ton of money to basically do nothing but X-ray and "maintain" pipe.

Whack off, post on OT, take 2 hour lunch, whack it again, go home.

Really? What level of education do they usually have?
Posted on 12/13/14 at 3:08 pm to Slinger16
HS diploma or equivalent with a 6 month certification.

I know one of these. She went to school for like 8 years for it and makes serious cash now.

Most of the time. One of my family members is a higher up for Columbia Gas and I've watched pipelines make 80k or so sitting on their asses all day. I would do it if I wouldn't be bored out of my fricking mind and work with shmoes all day

Around $15-$23 an hour depending on the company

Dude... I don't see the issue here.
Looks like I might be in for a career change.

Do you know anything about Spectra Energy?
Posted on 12/13/14 at 3:19 pm to Slinger16
I don't. Heard the name before but that's it. And yea not a bad deal at all. Especially if you're in a city you like.

The opening is in Paintsville, KY.
A town of 4500 people in the Appalachian foothills.

I would suck it up there for 6 months, log some experience, enjoy the getting away from everything feeling, and just bank $$$....then ask for a transfer/apply elsewhere.

Not my arse per say but my dogs been farting up a damn storm all day. I need a respirator.

there are actually two kinds of pipeliner...one that works in the construction of pipelines and one that works in operations of existing pipeline systems. since you are asking about natural gas, I am going to assume that you are referring to one that works in operations on an existing pipeline.
in that case, after some training, you would typically be assigned a stretch of pipeline to basically do whatever needed to be done. that would include tasks such as valve maintenence (greasing and turnin to be sure they operate correctly), pinpointing the location of the pipeline when people will be excavating around it, ensuring that the right of way is mowed, etc.
there would be a good bit of driving, as you would probably be responsible for several hundred miles of line...
I think I would like the work...
