I know they are known for their safety stuff. But are they fun cars to drive and are they generally reliable?

Also I just came across their performance tuning division - Volvo Polestar. Now you can get your car 'chipped' at the dealer without voiding warranty. I know APR in Auburn is popular for chipping Audis. But it is good to see the dealer themselves offer it for Volvos. I think that getting a chip is one of the best bang for buck investments for performance enhancement without getting into exhaust, intercooler or intake upgrades.

My parents had an XC-90 that was a piece of shite. It was always in the shop and the interior was crap.

Owned 2 in the 90s and there were great cars...to 60,000 miles. Then everything just started wearing out.
Haven't owned one since so hopefully they are better now.

I'm on number 3- first two were given to me and the third I got a great deal on. I will never own another and once my current one reached 80k miles it has been nothing but problems. Currently in the shop right now. When they are new, they are great cars but like beamers they are expensive to maintain and fix

I own an 06 xc90 with 125k miles. We had to fix AC and door latch. Other than that, it has been fine. Definitely not what I would consider a fun car but it's great for transporting kids.

No. Not at all. My girlfriend used to have one. I was out there almost every other weekend trying to fix something on it. Piece of crap. When we sold it, we told the guy it was a piece of crap. He called us a few weeks later and said, "you warned me, so I'm not mad at anyone but myself, but this thing is a hunk of junk."

My mother drives an XC90. It is awful to drive, but a really nice car. I appreciate it, for what it is. But I drive a regular cab pickup, and hate driving it; it has horrible visibility, is underpowered, and is foreign.

But when it was in for warranty repairs, she let me drive the S40 loaner they gave her. It was so much fun to drive. I would recommend it to anyone.

I have a 2002 Volvo S60

Bought it used about 4 years ago. paid $5000 for it.

I like it. I have almost 190000 miles on it and have put about $1000 in repairs beyond normal upkeep like oil changes and tires.

It looks great and drives well. I have enjoyed it for what it is. I just use it for around town stuff. Have not taken it on longer trips

Bought the wife an S60 turbo several years ago and loved it. Really fun and pretty fast. Once the kids started arriving we traded in for the XC70 cross country and have loved it as well. Also turbo, so has the pickup of the 60 but with a lot more room. We've got 140k miles on it and it still runs like a champ. Have had some maintenance on it recently, but nothing I would consider major. Engine, transmission and AC work just as well as when we bought it. Possibly looking to get a new car soon, but it is paid for and still runs great so why bother. I may get her a new car and keep it anyway to use when I don't feel like burning gas in my truck.

I like the fact that the wife and kids are driving around in a really safe car.

I have heard of a lot of reliability issues with the XC90, so I would probably stay away from that one.

So, someone should enjoy high dollar maintenance fees? That's kinda like saying "it's a great vehicle, but only gets 2 MPG."

Now that I have a family I think my next car will be a Volvo. The xc90 gets a total revamp for the 2015 MY; depending on how it looks/ features offered that may be the car I get next.

Something about Volvo has me interested. To me the people who own one are successful, appreciate nice stuff, and sophisticated, but don't want to be flashy like a BMW, Audi, or Mercedes owner.

I have seen a lot of the crash tests for several of their cars online which makes me want one even more.

Never owned one. I hope they are more reliable now than people have said on here.

Dealerships offer an overseas delivery program where they give you 6 percent off msrp and provide two round trip tickets to Sweden, plus a hotel room. You go to the factory and pick it up. You drive it around Europe and drop it off at a approved city and fly home. It arrives at your dealership several weeks later.

They are total POS cars. Lots of poorly engineered parts including fun repairs like defective heater cores that require you to remove the dash.

I work with guy who bought a brand new one and the engine blew up with less than 100 miles on it. He stupidly allowed them to replace the engine and he had several years of a very unreliable car.

Had a 850R and put a ton of road miles on it. Expensive to work on. Sold it with 270,000 on it.
