How hard is it?

Depending on the results of a test next month, I may have to get started.

Very. But there are plenty of resources.

This is a good site.

Didn't "have" to but, i worked with 2 deaf guys a long time ago. I learned so we could communicate. The alphabet is pretty easy. But, it takes a long tome to say anything. Learning words took a little longer but, it's a lot more effective.

Thanks.

There was an ASL evening class that I could have taken as an elective back in college. I regret not taking advantage of that now.

I learned a little bit, enough to get by, my neighbor's son is deaf and that's who I more or less learned from. It wasn't all that hard for me.

I learned as an adult.

It's not that hard.

I assume you have a child that may be Deaf. Kudos to you for learning ASL if that's the case. There are far too many POS parents out there that never learn to communicate with their kid.

When one has children, nothing else should matter except doing what it takes to give the child the best opportunities to have a normal life.

Hoping this isn't for a child. If for you/spouse, I'm sincerely sorry for either. Best of luck, GT11.

I know some French Sign Language, that translates fairly well, though.....

what a terrible sentiment.

I know dozens and dozens of Deaf people that are happier than most hearing people. Just because they aren't like you, it isn't some death sentence. Their normal is just different from your normal.

That's awesome man. I wish more parents felt this way.

Jesus, there is always one.

All I implied is what I live by daily. No child should hurt in any way. Children should be off limits.

Have a great day.

and what I am saying is that kids that are born Deaf don't hurt. That's all they know.

Not beating you up...just educating you.

both of my parents worked at Louisiana School for the deaf, and it is amazing to me how many parents, of deaf kids, do not know sign language!

Trust that you will learn it and you will! Please do not give up on your kid because that will be the social implication of not learning ASL with a deaf child!

Thought it was crazy that LSU didn't offer an ASL course. It was actually one thing I was interested in learning while in school and I never got the opportunity to do it.

I've never understood why the entire world doesn't teach children sign language at a young age. It would allow everybody in the world to communicate.

Ever tried to talk prices with an Ethiopian hooker in Amsterdam?
