About to be in the market and these have caught my eye. All the reviews look great, and all of the consumer reviews (Edmonds, KBB, USNews, etc) seem to consistently place it as the #1 or #2 vehicle in its class.

I personally have zero experiences with Mazdas and was looking for some TD experiences (besides it obviously not reaching lofty OT standards).

Eta: thanks

My sister (no pics) has one. It seems fine.

Girlfriend does. It is an awesome car. Only a year or two old so I can't speak to the reliability once it gets older. Sister drives a 2009 or so Mazda 3 which has been fine from a reliability standpoint.

Back to the CX5: I love the car. Drives great. Great sound system, bluetooth, etc. Rearview camera and blind spot awareness. All of this for a very reasonable price. It has plenty of room in the front seats and back. I think it is a pretty good looking car too.

Edit: sorry for the rambling and randomness of my review

I drive one. I love the fact that it feels more like you are driving a car. It handles extremely well and gets great gas mileage.

I'm not sure if the CX-5 has the same tail lights as the CX-7, but if they do, then be prepared that they might melt.

Seriously, I had a 2011 CX-7 and the tail lights literally melted through to where white light was showing.

I'm in the market for a crossover as well and the cx5 and cx9 have got great reviews. I used to have a Mazda 6 and I absolutely loved it.

They're doing a slight redesign for the 16 model, I believe, in which case I'd wait to get that. Or you could still wait for that to drop and then grab a cheaper 15 model.

I was looking at them as well, but went with the Cherokee 3.2V6 for the towing capacity. Nothing else that size came close to its numbers.

my favorite flavor of the CX-5 is the 6spd MTX, 2.0L, FWD. Easily gets 37 MPGs on a trip.

Just be warned with mazda's DI skyactiv engines, they run better on premium and you will get some fuel dilution in the oil if you run regular octane gas. Fuel dilution hasn't shown to cause any premature wear but some people don't like the oil shearing out of grade on the thin side. Not to mention, the increase in vapor rate through the PCV system from the fuel dilution may lead to intake valve deposits so the premium helps mitigate that risk, too.

I have a 2012 Mazda3 skyactiv and Mazda makes the best driving vehicles. I have owned 2 mazdas and plan to drive nothing else for the foreseeable future.

We bought one for my wife in 2013. It's been a great car. We bought a 2013 right when the 2014s came out to save a little bit. The 2013 only had the 155hp option. It wasn't a deal breaker for being my wife's daily vehicle, but I'd pay for the larger engine if I was buying one today. The 155 just doesn't quite have the get up and go you might want in a CUV.

Would 35k miles on a 2015 be a red flag? Id prefer closer to 20k miles, but for the vehicle to barely be over a year old and still well within warranty, I don't think it'd be a deal breaker

I have a '09 CX-5 for a High School-aged daughter (no pics). It has the turbo Ford 4 cylinder with a six speed automatic and gets about 18 mpg in city/rural driving on premium fuel. I had it diagnosed and it all checked out within tolerances. The EPA estimates were 17/23 mpg.

The interior of the '09 is not opulent by any means and it handles like a car as has been mentioned here but it appears to an adolescent mind to be a SUV.
No mechanical problems out of it in over a year. It was an elderly lady's car and babied for the first part of its life.
It's made in Japan (Hiroshima) which factored into my decision.

Any chance it was a rental? That would be my only concern, and even then only if you don't have a solid vehicle history. I've bought a previous rental from a dealership that had a contract with enterprise. Haven't had any issues, but I had maintenance history for the vehicle to review, and it too was still under warranty. CX-5 has another 20000 miles in warranty so you're fine there. If the price is right I wouldn't balk at the mileage automatically.

CX-5 didn't exist until 2013 model year. Might you have the now discontinued CX-7? Pretty sure CX-5 kicked off Mazda's new non-Ford line of vehicles.

No clue whether it was a rental. Just basing some early questions based on what I've seen online at some local (Bham) dealerships. May go look in person this weekend, and that will definitely be a question I ask.

Thanks to a for the feedback

You're right it's a CX-7, I drive it once a week to make sure the wheels aren't falling off and to fill it up.

I only own it, I wouldn't drive it.

Thanks for the catch.

'16 models are out already. Plenty below MSRP, too.

We had a CX7 as a rental for a week a few yrs ago in FL.

I rarely get a rental that I just do not enjoy driving, but this was one. It just didn't have much power, I could not get the seat to a comfortable position and it was pretty loud inside the vehicle.

That was a short experience but I just didn't like it. It's a good looking vehicle, I just didn't enjoy it.
