Anybody else grow tired of how the NHC and media are desperate for an awful hurricane?

It's been so long since we've had one hit the US that they now even brand swirls of thunderstorms in the gulf before they actually develop into anything. This isn't even a tropical depression yet and the NHC and media are acting like Katrina is coming ashore.

Wrong, 15 inches of rain is a big deal (for those that will get it).

The 24 hrs news is doing what the 24 hr news does. They have to sensationalize everything for ratings and to fill airtime. They're the worst thing that ever happened to news/journalism.

Anyone can throw out numbers. Will anyone get 15 inches of rain? No one knows yet. They already inflate wind speeds to make storms seen worse. "Hurricane Matthew" was a monster storm to them but winds barely broke 40 mph sustained in South Carolina when it came ashore.

It's been happening for a long time. This is nothing new.

Water is one destructive muther farker. It leaves death and destruction when ever it wields its power. Let's hope we don't see a single one this season.

The NHC is government workers.
What incentive do they have to drum up more work for themselves?

That is all part of their job. Once you get all worked up you will tune in longer to see what else they have to say.

Are you even the slightest bit informed or aware that Hurricane Matthew was the worst flooding experienced in North Carolina since Floyd in 1999?

Try grasping for straws and find a more noble hate to focus on next time.

LOL. You have no idea how the federal government works apparently. "Drum up work" ='s bigger budget ='s more personnel ='s more supervisory positions. Federal agencies over dramatize and create crisis all the time.

Fear sells man, it's all about the money.

BUT, the early warning of today's technology has saved thousands of lives. I'd rather a few false/exaggerated warnings instead of being hit by surprise.

People like you are ridiculous.

What is ridiculous to me is that some agency tells meteorologists when they are allowed to warn people with a projected path. I am glad they changed the rules because most folks wont take any precautions unless someone tells them to. I rather people be safe than sorry.

I worked for the national weather service. Mofo's get rock hard erections when a storm like Katrina enters the gulf. Trust me.

Matthew definitely wasn't a giant storm, but we are still cleaning up here in Hilton Head. My church actually held a neighborhood work day today to work on storm damaged homes.

I get more tired of the "OH MY GOD TD MEMBERS" who freak out when the wind blows over 5 mph.

NHC most certainly does not wish for an awful hurricane. Neither do most true broadcast meteorologists. Many of the same people who will complain about this are the same people who will complain one day saying that they didn't get enough warning. Can some forecasts bust and seem overhyped? Yes, but that isn't because meteorologists want a disaster to happen or are rooting for one.

Of course they find it fascinating, because weather is what they do, study, and love. However, they don't wish for people to be killed, lose their property, etc. because of weather.

Isn't Matthew the one that fricked up the eastern seaboard for 2 days because it didn't come on shore?

Pick a different storm if he skirted land for 48hrs before actually making "landfall"

How about justifying their job's existence, expanding their budgets, etc.?
