It's people like you who go to these places and they find a bullshite way to charge you with something. After four years of negotiations they release you and you come back a "hero".

Seriously, Risk vs Reward going to Cairo?

Nope. Nope. Nope.

There's too many other places to go that are much less risky.

Have you asked yourself if this is a smart idea? Given all the shite brewing over there right now?

I mean we are only a few months removed since terrorists brought down that airliner over the Sinai.

The trick is to know an Egyptian who lives there before you go. That way they can help you out and look out and vouch for you.

Stay at the JW Marriot in Mirage City. My wife stayed there for a little over a week last year. Place was immaculate. Company she works for requires hotels in risky city's to be able to be self sustaining for at least 10 days if necessary. She said this place could go 3 to 4 weeks actually .

Do some research and hire a private tour guide to show you around. Concierge at the hotel should be able to help you out. This was by far the safest way to travel around the city .

it's pretty much a shithole. trash everywhere, the locals are annoying and rude with tourists, and it could be dangerous. I'm sure if you stay in a nice hotel you shouldn't have problems. But if you want to venture into the culture and life of Cairo, I heard its not great.

Just go to Nola for the same experience

I liked the Mena House Hotel. Nice place right by the pyramids.

The Sheraton right on the Nile is nice as well.

But be prepared for the food. There is a reason there are no Egyption restaurants around.
