Any Marine Reservists stationed down in New Orleans here?

I got off of active duty back in 2010. I've been talking to the prior-service recruiter about going back into the Reserve component.
I'm trying to get into the Intel or CID MOS (lat move) any info on this is welcomed also.
I'd be stationed down at the USMC Reserve center down in New Orleans. Anyone here currently stationed there? I'd be new to the Reservist lifestyle so I'd be interested in finding out more about how the culture differs from AD. All info is welcomed.
TIA

Its been about 7 years, which unit would you be with 3/23 or HMLA 773?

Been there. Don't do it.
3/23 is Baton Rouge. It's a truck co at the moment.

MCSF in New Orleans. Not exactly sure which unit because I'm applying for a lat move from my old MOS before I go in.
No desire whatsoever to go into a Motor-T unit.

quote:You'll be a civilian 28 days a month and put the uniform on one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer. If you get a reserve gig at MARFORRES you'll have a lot more opportunities to deploy or do alternate Annual Training events or deployments, especially if you go intel. The infantry BN, 3/23, is gone from Louisiana now.

What is your current MOS?

It was 2311 (ammo-tech)
Spent a year at an ASP in Lejeune and then spent some time with using units like Anglco, headquarters group, MSOB, etc.
Got out, got a BS and currently working on a second one. The goal is to go back in with my current rank (E-5) and drop a WO package in a year or so.

When did that happen?
So MARFORRES and the MAG are the only units left?
I had a good time in the MAG, except the time they sent us to 29 Palms. Got off the plane and our MSgt was like WTF are yall doing here. Oh well, got to go up to Pendleton and hang while everyone else was stuck there.

quote:Rank? I'm guessing you have a clearance if you worked with Anglico and MSOB. That's of course the biggest hurdle getting into Intel. You said MCSF as in security forces at New Orleans?

No. I meant Marine Corps Support Facility MARFORRES.
Although, I'm too old for Security Forces at this point.... I think.
And yes, I had a clearance. I believe it was just Secret, maybe TS. Not sure how valid it is now though.

quote:Gotcha. Everyone just calls it MARFORRES. They probably have a billet for every MOS under the sun down there. I've never really spent a whole lot of time out there but I know a little bit. I spent 14 years in the Reserves in Louisiana.

Yea, I'd really like to make the Lat-move happen, but could take a while to be approved.
The PSR did let me know that if I'm denied those MOS's for any reason, that there's an ammo-chief slot open that I'd be able to fill, so I'm sure I'd be on all the ranges and whatnot if I wasn't able to get one of those MOS options, any other MOS options I should consider?
Also, can you give me any other good info on what it's like? It's been 7 years since I put on the uniform and I'm a little rusty. I'm pretty sure being an E-5 down there would be one of the lowest ranks around.
I've had some friends tell me on the AD side that things have changed A LOT. Way more PC nowadays. A lot of "watering down" is the way they put it.

I was discharged from there in 2001.
At the time, it was called MARFORES. The equivalent to the MEF but for the reserves.
There was a G-5 intel office.

As far as it being more PC than what you're used to, maybe, but in my experience that's always a bit overblown. But you do have to realize it's a Force level command and those places are always going to be more PC than what you're used to coming from a line unit.
As far as the lat-move, I'd do everything in your power to try and get it done before you get back in if at all possible, which it may not be. Just don't expect anyone to bend over backwards to help your lat-move along once you get in. You'll just be another new guy as far as they're concerned. I'm not saying it's impossible, but you'll really have to drive that train and follow up on everything on your own. The good news is that you'll be at the HQ of the entire Marine Reserve so you'll be able to get actual face time with pretty much everyone involved in the process.
CI/HUMINT would definitely be the "coolest" gig you could get down there with a lot of opportunities to deploy if you wanted to. I can't really think of anything else that would strike your fancy or would even be comparable to a gig like that. I imagine the ammo chief for MARFORRES does a lot of ordering ammo for different units. The bright side being that you can probably pretty much pick and choose your annual training location to support a unit conducting an exercise somewhere. There will always be something pretty exciting to choose from.
Email me a geauxxxtigers23@gmail and I'll give you more info. I won't be able to post for the rest of the day probably but I'll respond to your email when I can.
