Came out of the closet as an Auburn fan and a disgruntled ex-Texas State Trooper felt obliged to off him.

Mentally ill guy believed Griffith was involved in a court case against him twenty years ago, Griffith wasn't. Crazy guy becomes infatuated with Griffith, decides to kill him. He enters their home, shoots Griffith in the head, gets into a struggle with the wife. The wife hits him with a bottle, the bottle breaks, then the wife stabs the guy in the throat with the bottle. Crazy guy bleeds out while the wife has a heart attack and is now in ICU.
That's the version I've been told.

As long as I can remember, Steve Griffith was THE prominent attorney in Cullman. Sheriff Gentry gave a press conference about it earlier today, he had some interesting things to say. It can be found on the "Cullman Today" FB page.

It's sad what a mentally unstable person is capable of, the wife sounds like a badass though.

Sheriff Matt Gentry was very upset about the mental health issue in this case. As we all should be. I'm a firm believer we should be address punishment in the criminal justice system with a a strong eye on mental health and rehabilitation vs. incarceration. Of course, there are plenty of scenarios where incarceration and hard time are the correct solution.
