The Gulf War has always intrigued me. I was born in 1995 and my dad gave me all of those Desert Storm trading cards that were produced at that time so I was exposed to it at a very young age. Being exposed to that likely sparked my interest in history.

If there are any vets on here or just anyone who would like to share any anecdotes or takes on the war, feel free to do so. I'd love to hear it.

Not sure how far into details your looking to see discussed. FWIW if your looking to hear stories about action they may have seen don't count on it. Most Veterans don't like discussing it. I work with a guy who saw some pretty bad shite in Iraq. One of our co-workers tried prying some details out of him and he didn't react very well.

I stole a shitload of gold bullion with the help of a special forces officer and a CNN reporter. I have it buried at an undisclosed location and just waiting on the price of gold to go up a bit higher.

One of the first guys that died over there went to Redemptorist. His helicopter went down in the Persian gulf. I was there too. I was one of the first folks over there. I deployed with the lead contingent of the 18th ABC. I think I got there around the 17th of August. Made it back to the states around May of 91.

It was hot.

I ended up seeing the helo after they recovered it. It was on the back of a US navy salvage ship in the port of Bahrain. I know his brother. He was in my class in high school.
Tommy was a year ahead of us.

My dad's best friend was aboard Spirit 03, the AC-130 gunship that was shot down during the battle of Khafji while it was supporting marines on the ground. That's the only story I have any personal connection to.

I was in middle school during the Gulf War. For some reason I remember watching the president address the nation to announce we were going to war and my mom was crying. Not sure why she was being dramatic, but I remember the trading cards. I remember "Stormin Norman"..

Here's a story...

The US found a large cache of chemical weapons such as sarin nerve gas. So they did what anyone would do. They blew it in place. Really THEY EXPLODED NERVE GAS UP IN THE DESERT! Who had that bright idea????

My unit was one of hundreds that were down wind of that cluster f@&$. I still get letters from the VA talking about "if you recognize these symptoms..." The US effectively gassed their own troops. Good job NBC dumbasses.

Here's an actual cool story. I happened to be listening to the radio over there one night. They would play blocks of recorded music and requests from back in the states. I turned the radio on and heard one of my best friends from high school request a song for me. I thought I was hearing things. I wasn't, she confirmed when I got back stateside.

It was pretty awesome.

And that's what "Gulf War Syndrome" was, right?

I got feedback from a couple of B-52 pilots that our decoy flares did their job.
