Im having a low voltage issue in my breaker box.

Have a 200 amp box. And random circuits are seeing low voltage.

Am I right to assume the main breaker is going out and causing the panel to not distribute correctly?

No changes to the system load, and the problem just appeared.

When i pulled all the breakers, there was zero evidence of arching or corrosion.

Thoughts...

Could be a neutral problem.

Where did you read the low voltage? Only on certain outlets? I had a similar problem, and an electrician discovered that there was a loose neutral connection in a transformer going to my house. Outlets on one side of my kitchen for example were dropping low, while others spiked or stayed the same. Entergy paid for the electrician and came to fix it.

In order of Probability:

1.) Main Breaker going bad, causing one phase to be intermittent.

2.) One Phase from the utility service is out or going out. In this case, it is a problem your utility company needs to address.

3.) Bad or Loose incoming Neutral.

Why would it simply appear though?

A rat gnawing on a line?

And then for it to hit three seperate circuits simultaneously....but never throw a breaker?

Or am I missing something. Im no electrician. Admittedly.

I'm assuming if you pulled all the breakers you checked the voltage on the line and load side of the main?

No telling. It can be something that happens suddenly (like storm damage) or something that takes years to manifest (if a main lug is not tightened properly, the wire will heat up slightly. After years, the problem increases and increases, and then finally it just heats up too much and burns up).

Connections sometimes loosen over time. Neutral may not have been placed solidly on neutral bar or the neutral from transformer may be bad.

Thanks.

Appreciate the help.

I'll do a little checking in the morning.

Didnt check voltage with meter yet because when i went to do so today, everything was fine. Now it's nighttime. And the issue is back.

No you are not right. But I would check the connection at the breaker

When it happens again check the voltage in the panel to see if the service is dropping or if the problem is downstream. I'd bet it's downstream. Only do this if you're comfortable. Although it's only 120V, you're staring at the secondary of a transformer, which is high fault current.

panel

One side of the panel is dead.

No lose connections on the lugs.

Correct to swap it out...right?
