I'm 32 and I have fricking mono. I felt like I was dying Saturday night, went to the doctor, got a steroid shot, antibiotics and some pain killers, was feeling kinda better Monday but now I have this fricking painful arse rash all over my body that is a reaction that the mono has to the antibiotics.

This fricking sucks. How long does this shite last? The internet tells me it could last for months. Someone tell me the internet is wrong please.

Had it in college....it's the worst. Make sure you take all the required rest though, because relapsing is worse. I speak from experience.

I had it at 17. 1 week of agony followed by a month of having little to no energy.

Have you ruled out salmonella poisoning?

That could be your drag stage name.

Next up to the stage: Salmonella!

Hope you feel better soon.

been there, done that. Sucked bad. I was 21 or 22 BTW when i got it. Rash only lasted a weekend. Quit taking the antibiotics. The mono lasted about two weeks.

i don't think the rash is the result of the antibiotics reacting to the mono. I think its you reacting to the antibiotics. I can't take certain forms of penicillin anymore b/c I started to have reactions to it. I never had any adverse reactions until i was an adult.

I had bad body aches but never had to take pain killers so I was curious. It's probably way worse at 32.

nah the doc yesterday said it was from the mono reacting to the antibiotics

apparently docs are split whether or not to prescribe antis with mono, some do to help with possible secondary infections, but if you take antis with mono, you have a 90% chance to get a rash, so some do not prescribe the antis

gotcha. The doc at the LSU student health center didn't diagnose mono till after I got the rash. he was treating me with the antis cause he apparently thought I had something else.
