I gleaned this info from many places. Thought it might be convenient to put everything together in one place. Updated as of 2 AM.

Aug 15, 2016 - 10:55 am

may be eligible for three months of help paying for temporary housing while their residences are being repaired

At least one month of assistance will be available for renters.

There are also funds available for home repairs, to replace personal property and for transportation needs.

This is a quick look at pertinent info pertaining to flood recovery.

Register now!!!!!

More Parishes will be added later.

up to $33,000 grant - not a loan

FEMA will want paperwork from the insurance company stating that the damages are officially not covered by their policy.

Detailed list of loss must be documented

Pics, pics and more pics!!!!!!!

This appears to be a separate FEMA program in addition to the $33,000 grant program:

What is FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program?

"Not sure the stipulations, but they said you can call your mortgage company and auto lien holder and defer payments for up to 3 months."

Tips on mold/mildew cleanup:

Any antimicrobial. I order Microban from Ebay that works well. You can still use bleach but on a limited basis and only after you have properly used an antimicrobial.

After it's completely dry cover it with some mold blocking primer from Zinsser that also has antimicrobial in it. Kilz is not nearly as effective despite what people say.

Also, don't use bleach. The bleach kills surface mold, but the problem is that household bleach is only about 5% sodium hypochlorite, which means the other 95% is water. That means you're just introducing a bunch of water into a porous substrate in a place already infected with and prone to growing mold. So you may kill a bunch of surface mold but when the sodium evaporates, the remaining moisture left behind just encourages growth for any remaining spores that you missed

Despite the preceding warning, we may have to use what we have available.

New as of 8/18:
How to document damage for FEMA claim

Sorry I haven't updated recently. I spent several days buying stuff from Home Depot to send to my sister in BR.
She said all traffic lights on Old Hammond between O'Neal and Sherwood Forest are out.
Traffic is backed up all over!
Major flooding at O'Neal Lane area.
That is where the Amite and Comite Rivers come together.

Individual assistance is just what FEMA calls aid to individuals, or you could think of it as aid to people. You register for individual assistance when you call FEMA or register at disasterassistance.gov. That link is just a fact sheet for the types of aid that is available in the program. You don't have to register separately or do anything separately for individual assistance. Soon they will start opening disaster relief centers across the affected Parishes where you can go and talk to people with FEMA.

US 61 is now closed at Hwy 30, but that may not be for long if the water keeps rising onto 30
