I like fantasizing about the idea of winning even though I know I won't. But for someone like myself, who has completely no idea the proper steps to take before claiming the money, what would your advice be? How would you minimize getting taken advantage of by lawyers and financial gurus? I feel like with that much money, some legal personnel might get over.

My first step would be get a new phone for me and my wife (burners probably). Contact my old man. After that, I'm clueless. How would I know which lawyers and financial advisors to contact, the local experts wouldn't know what to do either.

Well, I'm in BR. And there are attorneys that have publicly represented lottery winners here before. So I'd likely call one of them on Monday morning. They'd also file the claim for me at least 2-3 weeks following the winning to let the news of it die down.

I'd stock about 50-75% in a Charitable Foundation anyways, so I wouldn't fret about being taken advantage of...

Dennis Calfee would be my first call. He taught me Estate and Gift Tax at UF law. He has done this for previous lottery winners as well as helping the UF players drafted by the pros with their taxes

Just put it in an s&p 500 ETF with a 2.5% dividend yield you would have about six million annual cash flow without losing a dime

there was a great thread abotu this on reddit a few months back (so not lotto related, but a dude somehow came into a crap ton of money) but I wouldn't know where to find it again. I remember it being really informative though, if anyone knows what I'm talking about and can repost that'd be cool.
