Mine is a toss up...
My Grandfather once told me, "If you pass up a piece of pussy, you're a piece of pussy behind for the rest of your life."
then later, my Mother told me, "Be careful of passionate people... because passion swings both ways"
I think Mom's advice was much more universal.

At an early point in my career I was very ambitious for more money and my godfather told me
"Employers don't give people more money because they want it. They pay based on the amount of responsibility someone can bear. Chase more responsibility and demonstrate you can handle it and the money will follow."
