Burl Cain says he was flattered by supporters who encouraged him earlier this year to enter the governor’s race, though the longtime Louisiana State Penitentiary warden doesn’t think the state is ready for his style of leadership.

“I would have built a loop, a tall loop around Baton Rouge to address the traffic problem, and I wouldn’t have held any town meetings,” Cain said in a speech to the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge this afternoon that focused on the improvements at the prison during his 20-year tenure. “I’d just go ahead and hire the best engineers and get it done. When I want to do something, I do it and don’t ask permission. I don’t think people are ready for that.”

It works well at Angola and that's where he should stay.

The guy runs his own personal kingdom at Angola. There's no reason for him to take on the pain in the arse of being governor.

I wouldn't vote for him

Because he thinks he is smarter than a collective group who discusses and debates the pro's and con's of a topic? Seriously?

Thank God you are not the deciding vote.

I am not a fan of big, slow government either. But you can't have a single dude making decisions worth hundreds of millions (or even billions) of dollars on his own. That's just crazy.

At this point I'd be fine with it going straight through my yard if it meant there was a loop

Well since it'd apparently take a king to get a loop built, there's no disputes that a loop is needed, maybe just this once I'd vote for the dictator

Absolutely the worst person I could think of on the face of the planet to even remotely talk about traffic and have an idea on what to do about it.

Anyone that has ever been to the Angola rodeo knows what I am talking about.

I don't even know who Burl Cain was before I read the article, and no the problem is that we all pine for a solution but when one is brought to light all the hand wringing goes from "we have a problem" to "don't solve the problem on my lawn".

I just don't understand it.
