Android Settings adjustments-Quick how to to speed your phone up

I updated my 2 year old HTC phone to ICS the other day. I've been rooted for some time now and running custom ROM. After the ICS update my phone was so sluggish it was almost un usable. Damn thing took 20 seconds to load pages and switch between apps. I was thinking my processor and ram made running this new operating system slow but have found out a few tweaks to switch and now she's running faster than ever.

Here's what I did.
Went to settings>developers options>transition animation scale and make sure its on .5x

Also switched Windows animation to .5x

Any other tricks you know about to share with us Android owners?

What does the animation scale do that would make it speed up your phone by changing it?

My phone has been sluggish for a loooong time now (Galaxy 2 w/ At&t). I'll change it to see if it helps.

I have an Atrix also. Mine is sluggish and the battery is shite. Not sure if I want a Samsung or the HTC one next.

This. I'm strongly considering changing to the One instead of upgrading to the SIV.

Speeds up the transition effect between screens making the phone appear snappier. The 1x transition is just slow and makes the phone look sluggish.

What about text messages? I just had to purge all my text messages b/c it was taking FOREVER to do anything in text messaging

now it's back to being fast...but will I have to do this again in a few months?

I was told that the .5x may have to be entered several time to take effect for good. Just check it from time to time if you feel your phone is getting sluggish. It may go back to 1x after an update or phone reset.

Turn off predictive typing/word suggestion and window animations/transition set to off.

I don't like running app killing programs. They themselves take up valuable memory.
