Is it truly possible to ban a breed of dogs?

Maybe it's time to start holding the parents accountable too

I don't get people that own dogs that could potentially harm their kids. It might be a nice, gentle dog that you've had for years and then one day your toddler twists his nuts and he bites his face off. I know people that this has happened to. Luckily the kid lived but had to have several surgeries.

Based upon my observations alone, from what I have witnessed at the local dog parks -- and I go a couple times a week with my dog, many Pit Bull owners are responsible and know how to keep of command their dog. Many are very friendly, socialized and understand basic commands.

The one time that I did witness a fight with a Pitbull was against a Min Pin. The fight didn't last long, because the Min Pin's owner separated them quickly -- whereas the Pit Bull's owner was doing something else with his baby mama -- and when he did "discipline" him, he was chasing him by kicking him and swatting an extra t-shirt at him.

I sincerely hoped that day that the Pitbull turned on his owner.

It didn't happen.

Sure, 3 week old is left unattended and it's the dogs fault.

So....the parents just left a three WEEK old baby alone with animals...

As if leaving anything under a month old by itself is dumb enough.

I've owned pitbulls for 30 years and never once had an issue with aggression towards anyone, especially children.

Maybe point the finger at the owners?

Is it just me or is that kids picture inset with the pic of the pits awkward? Did the press ask for a pic of the dogs looking their hungriest, and a pic of the child with a facial expression of "Don't put me down".

This is bothering me...

It is incredibly irresponsible to have these land sharks as pets; especially when you have young children.

Paco? Owns pitbulls? Mover for 20 years?

You must be one of those Canadian illegals that everyone keeps talking about.

You realize a 3-week old cant even crawl yet, cant even roll over yet probably. Baby was likely laying it it's crib or carrier and dog attacked it.

While I'm not a fan of pit bulls, here lies your problem in this particular story:

quote:

A 3-week-old was killed after one of her family’s three pit bulls attacked the baby girl while she was unattended with the dogs, according to reports.

A large dog doesn't have to be aggressive. The dog could've been playful and killed a baby that small by accident. Negligent parents.

quote:

“The breed of a pit bull, by itself, is not enough to condemn it; any dog can bite. This serves as a critical reminder to never leave a child unattended around a dog,” Grand Rapids Police Department spokesman Sgt. Terry Dixon said.

That's what every pitbull owner says, until it happens. Not saying your dogs will do anything, hopefully not, but they are apparently loving and good dogs until the snap and their killer instincts kick in. If you disagree, explain why we don't hear numerous stories about golden retrievers or labs killing people?

Link?

I've heard of cats laying on infants and suffocating them. Should they all be banned too? I'm not saying the possibility of aggressive dogs doesn't exist but come on man, parents have to be somewhat responsible here.
