I think the reporter did mention taking proficiency tests for some things. I was getting dressed and didn't catch all of it. He had a space shuttle on his cap with "2 Infinity and Beyond" on it.

Probably CLEPed as many classes as the school would let him. I know some won't let you CLEP over a certain percentage of classes towards your degree. Only way he finished out that quick.
CLEPS are severely underused by most college students, in my experience at least. Most GEN-ED required classes are easy tests too. I CLEPed History 201 and 202(Fall and Spring Sophomore lvl US History) from Trident Tech in Charleston as a 9th grader. The majority of high school graduates should be able to finish most of their GEN-EDs through CLEPs.
