I use MathCad to do my math heavy lifting now, but mainly because I have to show all sorts of permutations and boundary conditions in reports. It's not enough to show the graph for my condition, I gave show it for other people's position so my boss an see I'm on the right side of things.

My son goes to a private catholic school so they aren't required to do common core. None of his teachers could understand that shite anyway. I wouldn't have a problem teaching my son that side of things if it ever got to that.

I don't see why a 1st grader should have any homework.

Thinking about home schooling ours.
If we're going to stay up until 9/9:30 every night to do what they didn't get done in school, then we might as well do the whole bit with them.

Not true for smart asian kids I know. They spend most time on some cool projects already in first grade. They do their homeowork while returning to home

Homework is how I learn intangible college material. Tests are a waste of everyone's time though

True Story. I was a 'walker' after school so I got picked up around the corner so my parents didn't have to sit in the carpool line.

The walk and drive were 15 minutes of homework, for elementary school.

The drive was 45 minutes for high school

OP's kid needs better time management skills.

Are you really faulting the parents for working to support their family?

Did you read the entire first post? They are not allowed to start homework in aftercare, which others in this thread and myself find to be total bullshite. From the moment she gets home, its a race against thr clock to be able to get her in bed for 8pm. I dont think thats an unreasonable goal for a 6yo.

Yes, I remember doing that with three different children. First grade is a little young to be doing homework in after care, especially if they are no going to help her. The worst part I see here is that she doesn't get home till 6pm. Back in the day when both parents didn't work, it was much easier. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose a much lower standard of living so I could be home.

Is she your only child? How much of a house do you have and how many cars? Might not sound relevant, but it is.

She is not our only child. We have a 6yo, 4yo, and one on the way. We live a very modest lifestyle so its not like we work a lot in order to live crazy. The girls currently go to two different schools so yes that does take some time to get them once my wife gets off at five.
