Has it just been a while since I remember doing homework in first grade or do kids just have alot more these days? My daughter has roughly 1 - 1.5 hr of homework each night. Hell the kids get home at 6pm, eat dinner, do homework, then its time to take a bath and get to bed for 8. She is in aftercare at school and for whatever reason they arent allowed to do any homework during aftercare (until 2nd grade) which makes no sense to me.

Heres example of each night:
She had to cut out flash cards of her spelling words and also her addition and subtraction tables (this will be each monday).
We had to time her twice on how fast she could do the flash cards.
Tonight she had to write her 10 spelling words three times each but do consonants in one color and vowels in another. Yesterday it was where each word had to be done 3 times but in the same color.
She had to go over her spelling sentences three times and we had to time her on that as well.
She has to practice writing two sentences using 3 of her 10 spelling words bc they will be written on her test Fri.
She has to be timed reading words on her word chart which has 50 words on it.

Besides cutting the flash cards on Monday, all of the other things are done every day.

The amount of time is relative. It may take some kids 20 minutes while it takes other kids 1.5 hrs.

The Asian kids are doing 8 hours of homework per day. Tell your princess to step up her game or she will be tending gender neutral bathrooms.

Our county says 10x grade level. So 1st should be 10 minutes.

Probably better you teach them than the teachers. They're just babysitting so you can work, so if you want a smart kid you need to do it yourself.

Girl in 2nd grade, it's becoming bad. I'm the only one w ability to teach her but I can't do it in a civilized manner without losing my fricking shite on her. I hate it.

There's no real tangible proof that homework is even effective.

the only tangible proof is my kid learns very little in school and it's usually me reinforcing and teaching her what she needs to do

That's ridiculous. But what kind of homework can it be for a 1st grader? Practicing writing their name or coloring or some shite?

That is stupid, especially if you are paying for after care. Go up there and lay down the law.

First graders are doing reading assignments. If a kid starts prek not being able to write their name they are already behind.

It's a stereotype but there's truth in it.

It is also true that people who socialize easily and know how to win friends and influence people sometimes do even better.

I have a first grader. Her homework takes like 20 minutes and she does it by herself. Start telling your kid not err body gets to be an operator. Do they sell baby truck nuts?

Just talked to the wife. She said she'd raise holy hell if they weren't allowed to do homework in afterschool care.

I just use hand signals and gyrations to communicate with mine. Pointing works wonders.
