America's Most Dangerous Bridges (LC representing!)

LINK

quote:

No. 7 1-10 Calcasieu River Bridge, Lake Charles, LA

ADT: 63,000

SR: 9.9%

While the arching profile of this cantilever bridge may be aesthetically pleasing, its steep grades have been cited as a traffic concern, especially given the high volume of trucks the bridge carries along this major east-west corridor. Proposals to replace the 60-year-old structure have been discussed for more than a decade, but so far improvements have been limited to repairs and maintenance, including a $5.7 million project in 2012 to remove rust and replace damaged rivets.

Next trip to Houston.

Sometimes I take the by-pass to avoid that bridge.

I had a cop try to pull me over with his hand while he was pulling over a car in front of me. No way in hell he was about to get a 2-for-1.

The sad thing is...it will probably collapse before long. I know someone who recently retired from DOTD and he says he won't even drive over that bridge.

On top of the shitty drive, that bridge was icing on the cake to just start flying to HOU from N.O. I hate it so much.

Is that the route from Slidell to New Orleans with that linky dinky metal bridge?

I had to travel on that thing in a UHaul the day I moved to New Orleans because a semi with hyrdocholoric acid flipped at the end of the Twin Span. Then, some jerk offs got in a wreck on Hwy 11 shutting it down the same day, so we had to take the last open route into the city.

Driving a UHaul on that thing was scurry.

Yea, the concern should be more over the damaged rivets.

The scary thing about those truss bridges is the lack of redundancy.

This is why we should ban mountain passes.

Drove over that Lake Charles bridge going from SC to Galveston last year. That bridge is terrifying.

I'd never seen anything like it before.

The only thing worse than going over it the first time was having to go over it the second time when driving home.

Well since they refurbished the Super Structure of the bridge last year i doubt this will happen but yes it a rickity old piece. But i still always drive over it.
